Chapter Nine ; Something Right

February 26, 1935

Dear Jamie,

You did something right, my dad likes you. I didn't think it was possible for him to like anyone. We might have a chance yet, not that I'd say that out loud. It could screw everything up.

Sandy came up to me today. It's been a week since last time. She said she hated me, that I stole you from her. Then she slapped me.

I didn't realize you were up for the taking. I'm glad I did, though.

I've changed because of you. When Sandy slapped me, I didn't cry, I didn't feel weak, I didn't do anything. I just laughed. Can you imagine the shock on her face when I did that?

I guess I laughed because the old me wouldn't have. I'm stronger now, less shy. I know what I want and I know that one day I'm going to have it. And it's all because of you, Jamie.

So, thank you. For something different this time.

Your doll,

Cara

P.S. did I ever tell you how much I love it when you call me doll?
