*After Giant War, Blah blah blah.*

This is about as angsty as my writing gets... I think. I'm more of a fluff kind of girl.

Annabeth choked back a sob. It was supposed to have been a fun day. The Hunters of Artemis had dropped by, and they were tons of fun--not to mention always ready for a joke. As a laugh, Annabeth had borrowed a spare outfit of Thalia's complete with lieutenant's headband, and pretended to help lead the Hunters, making sure to pass by the Poseidon cabin. Sure enough, Percy had opened the door, woken by all the noise.

That's when it went wrong.

Instead of confronting Annabeth, like she'd expected, Percy had gone deathly pale, even paler than Nico, and slammed the door.

Laughing a little, Annabeth had knocked on his door, but there was no answer. He didn't come out for lunch, which was pretty unusual, but not too extreme. Annabeth just hoped he would be smiling the next time she saw him.

Then he didn't show up for dinner. That worried Annabeth, because Percy could out-eat a satyr, so she went looking for him.

The problem was, he wasn't anywhere.

She had climbed to the top of Thalia's tree, hunted through the forge, and looked in every room in the Big House, but no luck. She was starting to panic, and had even considered going past camp borders to look for him, but Chiron wouldn't allow it.

So Annabeth searched, combing the camp five times over, before her feet started to hurt too much to continue. She made her way down to the lake, hoping to soak her feet, and then look for Percy some more.

'This is all my fault,' she berated herself, not really paying attention to her surroundings. AS she crested the hill, she glanced up--and almost fell over.

The water was still and calm, and, sitting on the bottom of the lake, about ten feet out, was Percy.

Annabeth broke into a dead run, cursing herself for not thinking of the lake sooner. She raced down the hill and skidded to a stop at the water's edge. Looking around, she spied a good-sized rock and, taking careful aim, threw it into the lake, right in front of where Percy was staring into space.

He glanced up with a miserable look on his face, then swam up to the surface. As he walked out of the water, Annabeth started. Tears were running freely down his face.

Percy walked to Annabeth, and they stood there, face to face, for a long time. Finally, Annabeth spoke.

"Percy, I really am sorry, I didn't--" But Percy cut her off, pulling her into a long kiss.

His lips were salty, whether from the tears or the lake, Annabeth didn't know. When they pulled apart, Percy looked at her, eyes constantly flicking up to her forehead, where the lieutenant's band had sat earlier that day. When he finally spoke, his voice was hoarse.

"Don't. Please, if you... I couldn't... just...don't."

Smiling softly, but still upset with herself, Annabeth rested her forehead on his.

"Never again," she said. "I promise."

Soooooooooooo, yeah. Angsty Percabeth always makes me sad, so I don't write a lot of it. This was my first attempt; tell me what you think!

Viria art again. I just can't get enough of her work!

I'm sorry if I upset you, whether by feels or bad writing.
