Chapter 4 - A Toast

Kayla's PoV;
"Your getting married" my dad says and I'm in pure shock.

"To who?" I ask.
He looks over at Eric and says "Eric"
Eric almost chokes on his soup.
"What! No one ever told me this" he says.

"Why? Dad" I ask.
"Because we know it's not your main priority to find love,and Eric isn't even trying.You are two of the best dauntless."he says.

"I don't want to get married!" I say and my dad says
"It's happening and that's final!"

I run to my room and lock the door.I sit down lying on the door and let the tears fall.
This isn't fair,I'm my own person.I Should get to have a say in this.This should be my choice not my fathers.

And Eric,I mean.....what?????
This is so unfair.I never thought my family would marry me off.This is what they were all being so secretive for yesterday.Even my brother knew.

After a while I here a light knock at the door.
I don't bother answering it.
"Sweetness open up." It's my mom.
I open the door and let her in.
"Honey I'm so sorry-" she starts to talk but I stop her.
"Did you help make the decision?" I ask.
"Sweety-" she starts to talk again.
"Did you help make the decision?" I ask again,Almost shouting.

"Yes" she says and I make a run for it.I run out into the kitchen and straight out the front door.I run and run until I reach the tracks.
I jump on the train.

I need a ride to calm myself down.I need to think about things.

The train stops and I am not sure why.
"Rule number one,Never try to run away from 3 leaders,They can stop the train" a voice says from behind me.

I turn around and see Eric.

"What do you want?" I say
"Hey! I didn't know either.I Mean,I would have told you!" He replies and I look at him.
"What are we going to do?" I say.
"I don't know" he says.

"When's the wedding?" I ask.
Eric swallows the lump in his throat "1 week and 3 days" he says.

I start to cry again.I only have 10 days until I am being married.
"What about initiation?"I ask

"We are doing a shorter initiation this year.2 days of each stage."he replies.

"The only good thing is your not able to get cut"he says and I don't say anything back.

"You should get back to the compound" he says.
"Can I tell my friends? They will know somethings up."
"Yeah.theyll be announcing it at breakfast tomorrow"
"So we will have to pretend we like each other?" I say and he rolls his eyes.
"That's what they said" he says.

"Ok so I can tell my friends that we aren't really   Together?" I say and he nods.

The train nears the compound and we jump out.

"Race you!" I shout getting a head start.
He catches up and passes me out.

"I win!" He says and I pout.
"Hey at least you got second"he says
"That's not good enough,only first"
"Whatever go back to the dorms,Tell your friends only they can know the truth" Eric says seriously.

"Whatever bye" I say and walk away to go to the dorms.
For a minute I forgot I was getting married.What a beautiful minute.

I walk into the dorm and the guys crowd around me.
"How was dinner?" Uriah asks and I look at him.
"Not good" I say.
"Why? Dallas asks and I take a deep breath.
"Dad arranged my marriage" I say.

Everyone gasps.
"What? To who?" Marlene asks
"Eric" I say and my face is void of emotions.
"Wait!eric as in 'leader eric' ???" Lynn asks and I nod.
"Oh Kayla I'm so sorry."emmet says and engulfs me in a hug.
