On Hold?

Firstly, obviously you have your reasons for putting your story on hold so it's important to tell you readers, whether you leave a message on your profile or put it into an author's note.

Secondly, don't end your last chapter on a cliffhanger, it will drive your readers crazy.

And thirdly once you do continue to write your story again make the first chapter a long one. I mean if you've been waiting for six months for someone to update and then they do but it's only one page, how annoyed would you be?

Lastly if you are planning on putting your story on hold for a long time give your readers a temporary ending. A temporary ending is just that temporary, it's a type of ending that satisfies your readers long enough until you come back, but once you do come back you can continue writing on from the temporary ending. Like say for instance your story is an action you could make the temporary ending something like ''and they had a long journey ahead of them...''
