Author's Note: Hey guys! If you didn't notice, this book has a new name and a new cover. Don't worry, though, everything else is still the same. I changed the name and the cover mostly for writing purposes, because (you might've noticed in the last three books) the chapters my friend and I write tend to be super long, and I'm trying to make the chapters shorter for you guys to read. Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know in case you were wondering or confused. I hope you like the chapter and thanks for reading! -Rachael

The two vampires circled around the house, surveying the premise for cracks in the shield protecting the three allies. Rachael and Brendon had taken the back while Anthony secured the front portion of the home. After a long, tension-filled twenty minutes passed by, the front door was kicked down, an attempt for Josh to make a dramatic entrance as he stepped inside, turning his head left and right.

"Knock knock," He sang sinisterly while searching around for the witches, a smirk crawling upon the vampire's face.

Anthony, Rachael, and Brendon held their breaths as they listened to the footsteps travel around the floor, Anthony behind the couch settled in the living room and the witch and wizard pressed up against the wall on the two sides of the doorway in between the kitchen and foyer, an invisibility spell cast over the two of them.

Brendon glanced over at Rachael and bit his lip, watching as a tear fell from her eye and rolled down her cheek. He knew exactly what was going through her head - how she didn't want to die here, and how she just wanted everything to go back to the way it was. And even though he knew what that entailed if that were to happen - namely their relationship returning to the state it used to be in, where they hadn't spoken in years and had no desire to speak to one another (at least on Rachael's end) - he wanted things to go back to the way they were too.

He hated living, no, being trapped in New Orleans, under the constant surveillance of the wolves who imprisoned him. Sure, they gave him protection, in addition to more-than-handsome accommodations, but he absolutely hated it. His hatred only lessened a little bit when Rachael came to stay with him, but it didn't change the fact that he wanted out. That seemed impossible, though, now more than ever. He was stuck here, and the only way he wouldn't be was if this all never happened, if they could turn back time.

Josh traveled farther into the house, his eyes flickering around as he tried to spot any kind of movement. "C'mon, Rachael, come out already. I haven't seen you in so long. I missed at you at the party for Patrick...we all did."

The sorceress rested her head back on the wall and pressed her lips tightly together, closing her eyes and doing her best not to blow her cover.

The vampire stepped into the kitchen, wandering around the island and tearing each and every cabinet door open, as if the two of them would be hiding in them. By the time he was finished, the kitchen was destroyed, pots and pans and cooking utensils scattered about the floor. His breathing was heavy, impatience wearing him thin. Josh knew she was here, he could hear the blood pumping through her veins.

"Rachael, where the hell are you!?!"

Don't do it, Brendon spoke to Rachael without moving his lips, Don't listen to him, Rach. You know what he's trying to do. Don't fall for it.

No shit, I'm not stupid, Rachael replied telepathically.

Josh stopped in his tracks and heaved a sigh. He knew he needed to say the right thing to lure her out. The corner of his lip curled up as an idea came to his mind. "C'mon, Rach," He murmured, taking a few steps forward, "Patrick misses you."

He's lying to you. Patrick's not Patrick anymore. You know that.

"He just wants to see you," Josh added softly, retracing his steps around the kitchen, "That's all."

She remained silent for a little before opening her eyes and turning her head to look at the wizard. What if he's still in there, though?

He's not.

But what if he is?

"He's not!" Brendon exclaimed, breaking the connection the two sorcerers shared and losing his invisibility cover. His eyes grew wide as he realized what he had just done. He met the vampire's gaze and weakly smiled, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

"H-Hi, Josh. What a pleasant surprise."

"A pleasant surprise indeed. I thought Rachael would be the first to give herself up," Josh gloated, before a tap bounced off of his shoulder. The vampire turned around and a fist collided with his face, causing him to drop to the floor, Anthony towering over him but his eyes locked on Brendon.

"All I asked was for you two to hide and you still managed to screw it up," He deadpanned while reaching down to grab the vampires ankles, dragging him out of the room. When the wolf disappeared from sight, Rachael came out of hiding and swore under her breath, her words about how no one had any respect for vampires incomprehensible to the wolf and the wizard. Brendon moved to the sink carefully and pulled out a specific drawer, retrieving a bottle filled with vervane. Rachael noticed and decided to stand guard, just so she didn't have to face Brendon.

Tyler, peering into the kitchen window and having seen everything that happened, pulled away from the house, knowing it was up to him now. The only question was how was he going to do it.

The three inhabitants headed towards the top level of the small home, and he took this opportunity to slip in the back door.

He closed the door behind him, quietly fitting it back into its place. He took a switchblade out of his back pocket and released the sharp edge from its hiding place. The vampire passed through the home making sure to look back over his shoulder, constantly in fear that his targets might sneak up behind him. He reached the end of the stairwell and tilted his head back, looking up. He could hear the hushed conversation the three were having.

"I'm telling you, guys, you need to leave!"

"We're not leaving you here, Anthony. We already told you that."

"But you're not safe here. They're looking for you, not me. Just get out of here and as far away as you can. I can deal with them."

"But you know nothing about vampires, Anthony. You're ignorance will lead to your demise, trust me. Let me help you, I know about vampires. I lived with them for hundreds of years, remember?"

"That doesn't mean shit!"

Tyler shook his head before walking up the stairs and preparing to take the two witches and the wolf. He silently made his way down the hallway, approaching the room the voices were coming from. The three were too busy arguing to notice the next attacker standing at the threshold. Anthony's back was turned to him, Rachael was too busy looking out the window, and Brendon was pacing in circles trying to think of a way to get out of the house and then out of the bayou.

"Guys, please, just get out of here already!" Anthony exclaimed.

"For the last time..." Rachael murmured.

"We're not leaving!" The two witches shouted in unison. Anthony rolled his eyes in annoyance and put his hands on his hips.

Tyler's grip on the switchblade tightened as he waited for the right moment to attack, the corner of his lips slowly curling upward into a smirk.

"Why? Give me one good reason why you won't save yourselves. Just one! That's all I need."

"Because!" Rachael shouted at him, snapping her head in his direction, ready to yell at him when she saw the familiar face in the doorway. All color flushed from her skin and her eyes grew wide.

"Because...?" The alpha urged her to continue. But the witch was struck silent, her gaze locked on the vengeful vampire. Brendon stopped pacing and looked at what Rachael was looking at, his expression matching hers. "You know it's what Kenya would have wanted," Anthony went on to say.

"Well, then I guess it's a good thing that bitch isn't here."
