Dan didn't get much sleep. He was sat in the corner huddled into a tiny ball for the remainder of the night. He let's out a long sigh before standing from the floor. His knees crack as well as his back as he stretches. He makes his way to the mirror examining his features. He would've been able to lie to Phil and say he'd slept fine had the bags under his eyes not been so relevant. He ruffles his hair a bit and tugs at his shirt before turning to the door, going to wake Phil.
Slowly Dan lifts his hand to knock but he can't bring himself to do it. He sighs and lowers his arm, turning his back towards the door sinking to the bottom.
'He couldn't possibly feel the same way could he? Is this wrong of me? I know I'm not supposed to feel this way...'
The door opens and Dan falls back onto Phil's feet.
"Oh? Hi Dan, I didn't know you were awake. You usually sleep in."
"Yeah sorry, I was gonna come to wake you, but I felt it was necessary for me to just wait until you woke up." Phil stretches his arm out for Dan who gladly takes it.
"Goodness Daniel, did you sleep at all last night? You look so tired." Phil questions, staring at Dan's eyes with concern.
"Uh, yeah I slept, but I kept tossing and turning. Ya know, the usual. It's probably because of time zone changes." Dan lies, rubbing the back of his neck while he gives a small smile to Phil, he hopes that will reassure him that he's alright.
"You could've slept in my room and woke me when something was wrong." He softly spoke to Dan, setting his hand amongst his shoulder.
The butterflies.
They began to flutter in Dan's stomach again. He looked away.
"I don't know, I just didn't want to be a bother I guess." He shrugs, staring at his feet.
"How about you stay with me tonight, that way I can make sure you're alright." Phil tries to make eye contact with Dan, and when he does, he gives him a soft warm smile.
"Uh, sure. Yeah...okay," Dan stumbles on his words and a light blush surfaces on his face, "We should get going, maybe find a place to eat, yeah?"
Phil nods his head and they both walk out into the hall, the door shutting loudly behind Phil.
"So I was thinking maybe we could get some burgers, I mean if we can find some place that sells burgers close by." Dan chuckles.
"Hamburgers, Philip shouldn't we get something we've never tried before?" Dan was only teasing with Phil.
"Of course but we've got a few days to try different foods, why not start off with something familiar?" He smiles widely at Dan, "I mean if that's okay with you." Dan nods in agreement and they begin their journey for the day.
----------
Half the day passes and the two have finally arrived back to their hotel. They found a place that sold hamburgers and then tried some new type of milkshakes, the rest of their day consisted of shopping in the many stores. When they finally return to Phil's room, he struggles to find his keycard. The bags on his arms made it hard for him to dig in his pocket and Dan couldn't hold his bags because Dan's arms were already full with bags of his own.
"I'm starting to think we may have gone a little over board." Dan laughs readjusting his bags whilst trying to help Phil with his own.
"Me too, but it'll be totally worth it when we get home." Phil finally reaches his keycard and slides it through the lock. The door clicks open and they immediately rush to seat their stuff down.
Dan plops down on the bed, laying half on half off, and let's out a sigh, "It's not even late yet and I'm ready to relax and rest up."
"I know what you mean." Phil plops down next to Dan. Dan rolls over onto his side and Phil turns his head making eye contact. Phil smiles gently at his younger friend. Dan tried to inch closer slowly, but stopped almost immediately in fear of what Phil would say.
"Dan, is everything alright?" Phil rolls onto his side and elevates his head with his hand. Dan rolls onto his back and sighs.
"I guess.... I mean, I just... I don't know."
"I know you Dan, and you've been acting weird ever since we started this trip. Something's gotta be eating at you?" Dan doesn't respond for a few minutes.
"You're right, it's just, there's something I want to tell you. No, need to tell you Phil... And I'm just scared." Phil's face twists with confusion and Dan rubs his hands on his face.
"Phil..." He whispers.
