Chapter 22:

Cassie Reynolds

As they pulled up to Cassie's house she took a deep breath before squeezing Micah's hand tightly. She was still scared to face her father.

Looking at the house for a second she gulped before grabbing the door handle as Micah cut the cars engine. Since the two had school in an hour they stopped off here to get Cassie some close. Although she was terrified Micah assured her she'd be fine with him.

Clutching her keys the two approached the front door as Cassie fumbled with the keys.

Sucking his teeth Micah snatched the keys out of her hand. "Taking all day. I told you he ain't gone do shit." Micah huffed unlocking the door and swinging it open letting it hit up against the wall.

As they entered they could here yelling and what sounded to be tussling coming from upstairs causing Cassie to shoot off up the staircase. Shaking his head Micah followed behind her at his regular pace.

"You think you gone leave me Cameron? Then you think she going with you?" Dylan said pointing to Cassie who stood in the doorway looking between the two.

Cameron's lip was busted and her father towered over her yelling at her like a mad man.

When Cassie didn't come home he took to bothering her only to get upset when he noticed her bags packed. The two got into s heated argument about Cameron moving out. It became physical when she mentioned she'd be taking Cassie with her.

"Why do you do this all the time?" Cameron asked wiping the blood from her lip as she cried. "I hate you!"

Reaching down he slapped her so hard it echoed through the house. "Watch your damn mouth." He spat before turning to Cassie who stood in the doorway crying.

"I told you to come home last night." Dylan said to her. "Didn't I tell you to come home?"

Nodding her head yes Cassie looked up at the rage in his eyes.

"She say you moving out with her that true?" Dylan asked Cassie referring to Cameron saying she was leaving and taking Cassie with her.

Looking at Cameron as she held her face Cassie tried to fight her tears. "Daddy we can't stay here. You need help. Your hurting us." Cassie cried hoping he would see what he was doing.

"Y'all gone leave like she left?" Dylan asked looking between the two girls.

"She died daddy she didn't leave on purpose. Mom was sick and she died." Cameron said to him.

"I needed her. She knew I needed her and she left me. Now y'all trying to leave I can't let y'all leave me." He said aloud before walking over to Cassie causing her to back up until she bumped into something.

Micah stood behind her calmly as he'd watched and listened to everything.

He could understand Dylan not wanting to be alone. He too had that same fear of being left behind.

"Cassie you brought him into my home?" Dylan scoffed upon seeing Micah in the doorway.

Watching Dylan closely he motioned for Cassie to help her sister up.

"I ain't here for yo bullshit. They just gone get they stuff and then we leaving." Micah said to him not intimidated by him one bit.

Cassie went to grab one of Cameron's bags that she'd previously packed.

"Cassie if you think about touching that bag I'll-" Dylan threatened before he was cut off by a gun being pointed to his head.

The room grew silent as the two girls now stood terrified.
