I watched him carefully.
His lips parted
as he took a step
forward.

His eyes remained fixed on
mine, as he advanced though the
crystal clear water,
in an attempt to cross the
boundary
separating
us.
"Why did you take so long
coming to me?"
Unable to formulate an answer,
I remained silent.
"Hm?"
His eyes pleaded.
"Have you perhaps..."
Above us,
a river of butterflies spread their wings,
beautifully.
"forgotten me?"
