Chapter Nine

Chapter Nine

I walk out of the building with a huge smile on my face. I just finished my interview at the internship and they thought that I was the perfect person for it so I'm going to start on Monday. 

I text in the group chat that I have with Riley, Smackle, Farkle, Zay and Lucas and I told them to meet me at Topanga's in 30 minutes because I have news for them. I have to go back to my dorm room to get out of this suit and change into normal clothing. 

I'm walking on campus and I hear my name, "Maya?"

I turn around and see Josh which makes me smile, "Hey, Boing."

He smiles at the nickname but he still has confusion on his face, "Is Maya Hart really wearing a suit?" 

I roll my eyes, "Don't get used to it, I only just wore it for my internship interview."

"Oh yeah," he looks down at me, "How did it go?"

"It went amazing." 

He smiles, "You got the internship?" I smile and nod and he grabs me into a hug, "Oh yes! Congrats, babe."

I smile, "Thanks." 

"Are you going to tell the rest of your friends?"

I nod, "Yeah, I'm meeting them in 30 minutes but I have to change first."

"I'll walk you to your dorm room."

I smile and agree. He starts walking me to my dorm room and we talked as we walked. He always knows how to make me smile. I think everything was more simple between us and we didn't have people in between us. 

I'm wearing my ripped jeans with my white t-shirt and my leather jacket over it. I slip on my white with black stripes Adidas shoes. I leave my long blonde hair in the curls they were in. Riley wanted to curl my hair this morning. 

I stand in the subway with my headphones in. If Mr. Matthews taught me anything was that "People change People." So, when I look around in public spaces like the subway, I just think about how these people have changed each other lives like Riley has changed mine. 

I walk into Topanga's. I see Zay, Farkle, Smackle, Riley and Lucas talking. Farkle looks up and sees me first and smiles, "There she is!" 

Lucas smirks before saying, "I love how you were the one who told us to be here in 30 minutes, but you're the one who's late."

"Yeah, yeah Huckleberry. Shut up." He laughs and I sit next to Riley. 

Riley smiles, "What'd you have to tell us, peaches?"

I smile and look at her, "I got the internship."

Riley smiles really big before grabbing me into a big hug. They were all excited and started taking turns with congratulations and hugging me. 

I walk up to the counter and see Topanga who hugs me. She was smiling, "Your mother told me about the internship. I'm so proud of you."

I smile, "Aw, thanks Topanga. That means a lot."

She hugs me tightly, "Of course, my Fierce Amazon Warrior." 

I laugh and run my fingers through my hair, "Where's my mom?"

"She's in the back."

I smile and nod before walking to the break room. I see my mother making herself some coffee. I hug her from behind which makes her smile, "Maya!"

I smile as she turns around to give me a real hug, "Ma."

She kisses my cheek, "I'm so proud of you, babygirl. I knew you could do it."

That makes me smile and I kiss her cheek, "Aw, mom."

She smiles and I sit with her at the table. "How's college going for you?"

I smile and nod, "It's going amazing." 

"Is everything better with Josh?"

I shrug, "I have no idea anymore. I talked with him earlier a bit but it's like he's still with his girlfriend and if he truly wanted to be with me, he would do something about it."

She nods, "That makes sense but at the same time, you're still having flirty relationship with Noah. So maybe he's not doing anything about it because you're not doing anything either." 

I look at her with shock, "Mom."

She laughs, "What?"

"I think you've been hanging out with the Matthews too much."

She smiles and shakes her head. "You know I'm right."

I sigh, "I know." 

I get up and give her a side hug, "I love you, mom."

"I love you more, sweetie."

I feel like since I've gone to college, my mother and I have gotten way closer which I love. I wish I put more of an effort to have this bond with her while I was in High School. 

I'm laying in my dorm room with Smackle and Riley. Lucas, Farkle and Zay are here too. Zay lays on my bed next to me, "I think we should celebrate Maya's internship."

Lucas nods, "I agree."

I roll my eyes, "You guys just want to get drunk and you need an excuse and that's why you want to celebrate."

Zay shakes his head, "What? Do you really think we're that self-centered?" 

Riley and I look at each other before saying, "Yes." 

Lucas shakes his head playfully, "Wooow."

I run my fingers through my hair, "Is there even a party tonight? It's Thursday."

Zay turns his head to me, "Love, we're in college now. There's always house parties." 

Riley looks at me, "So, we're going?"

I think about it before nodding, "Sure, okay."

Zay and Lucas were really happy about that which makes the rest of roll our eyes. 

Lucas' friend Jake invited us to his house party. I'm not dressing up and going all out, I'm just going to wear the same outfit that I wore today. My arm is hooked with Zay's. He's my date for tonight because we always need a buddy system at these parties. 

Lucas looks at both of us, "I don't know why this is a good idea."

"What do you mean?" I ask. 

"You guys are the ones who get the most drunk so there's no way for you guys to take care of each other."

Zay and I look at each other with feign hurt. Zay looks at him, "How dare you?"

Riley laughs, "They'll be fine."

I smirk, "Yeah, Ranger Rick."

He roll his eyes. 

So, Huckleberry was correct. Zay and I being together was the worst. In the beginning, we were doing just fine but then Josh completely acted as if he didn't know me and purposely made out and basically had sex in front of me. The first thing Zay did? He passed me alcohol. So now we're both dancing around and laughing at stupid shit. He's the only one who I could truly act this way with and who wouldn't judge me. 

The worst thing about getting drunk was Lucas mocking us and claiming how many times he told us this would happen. But Zay and I still didn't regret it.

This was just another filler chapter. In the next chapter, there will be other changes.
