Dodie's POV

I grabbed the bottom of my shirt, almost taking it off. Before I could, she broke the kiss and pushed me away.

"Y/N are you okay? Did I take it too far, did I hurt you? I'm so sor-" I say in shock

She lets out a frustrated sigh

"No no, it's not your fault." she said exasperated

"w-what's wrong?" I asked slowly, not wanting to annoy her further

She noticed that I was scared and calmed down. She took a deep breath.

"Dodie I love you so much. I literally couldn't put in to words how much you mean to me, but I can't do this." she says in a sympathetic voice

"I don't understand."

"I know. I just don't know how I can make this work, I love you so fucking much and I want you to be happy, but I can't make you happy. I want nothing but the best for you, but I can't give you that. I want you to find someone who's ready for this kind of commitment, but I'm not that person right now. I'm just going to bring you down and you don't deserve that. That's exactly what I can to tell you today, but I guess I just got a bit too excited and I stepped out of line." she says calmly

I look in her eyes, this time I can tell she's definitely telling me truth, I'm sure of it.

I feel a tear roll down my cheek.

There was a long silence.

"do you think we could still be friends?" I ask so quietly I'm surprised she even heard

She sits down next to me and takes my hand once again

"Of course, but only if you're comfortable with that."

I pull her into a hug

"You were my friend before this, and you're going to be my friend after." I whisper

We stay in this hug for a solid 5 minutes. When we both pull away she does something I honestly wasn't expecting, she kisses me.

Of course I kiss back, how could I not? It doesn't last nearly as long as I want it too. She pulls away after a few seconds.

"So I'll see you later?" she asks as she stands up

"yeah, I'll see you later." I respond with a small smile

I walk her to the door.

"I love you Dodie."

"I love you too."

And then she walks out the door, just like that. She's gone. But, I guess it's for the best. However, if there's ever a point in time where she's ready for a relationship, I'll be right here.

whether we're dating or not, she's still my girl.
