"That was a sucky movie."

Maia looked indignant. "It was not, it was cute."

"No, it was shit." Ashley rolled her eyes.

Marcus grinned, "I got to cuddle, so I'm not complaining."

"YOU GUYS ARE SO CUTE." Maia, Isobel and Skye screamed in perfect unison, making everyone else cringe.

"Goodbye hearing, I'll miss you." Shawn said, flinching, making everyone laugh.

"Okay," Isobel cut in, "I need to go home, but I'll see you girls in an hour."

"Bye guys." Trevor waved, before following his girlfriend to his car.

Marcus turned to Ashley, "Come on."

"Where are we going?" Ashley asked curiously, following him.

"Your house."

"What?"

"I think it's time for the meet the parents stage." Marcus said, his face serious.

She froze, "I don't want you to."

"I promised you that I would protect you." He reminded her, "I'm going to do just that."

"What if he hurts you?" She asked, still not moving.

"Better me than you." He said, the honesty ringing in his voice.

She shuddered, "But-"

"Ashley?" He looked at her, "Shut up."

She clamped her lips shut. She was scared, but she couldn't help but let the hope blossom inside of her. Maybe she could finally get away.

"But where would I go?"

He smiled, "I know just the place."

She looked at him, "Well, are you going to tell me?"

"Nope."

She poked him, "Come on."

"Nuh-uh."

She leaned into him and looked into his eyes. "Please?"

"No."

She brushed their lips together, "Tell me?'

He narrowed his eyes, "You're playing dirty. Can you stop trying to ruin the surprise?"

She bit her lip as they reached her car.

He held the driver's seat open for her.

"You know, holding open the driver's seat door for my girlfriend just took away a chunk of my masculinity."

She rolled her eyes, "You could always walk."

He grinned, "You love me too much."

She rolled her eyes and got in. He walked around the car and got into the passenger seat, humming a little tune while he did so.

As she revved up the car, she couldn't help but let a shiver of anticipation spread through her.

She really wanted this to go well, otherwise, things would get ugly.
