Knock Knock, I had just finished straightening the wrinkles in my purple pencil skirt and checked my crisp white blouse for any issues, today was a day for perfection nothing could be out of place. "Knock Knock," I said clutching my tote bag standing outside the tarp that would soon be replaced by a door that leads to Jared's office. "Come in" Jared answered not bothering to look up I walked into the room to see him shuffling through some papers. I had no doubt that they were resumes for potential agents. "Hey Alice what are you doing here" he smiled nervously at me, I was going to question it but didn't want to get sidetracked from my goal. "This" I dug in my bag and brought out my resume "Here" I extended the paper to him while he looked confused "What's this?" he asked taking it "It's my resume, I'm here for an interview" I said taking a seat across from his desk "Honey you know you were never fired, your job is safe" He said chuckling lightly. "I'm not here to try to save my job as a secretary I want to be an agent," I said feeling nerves build up inside of me. It had just occurred to me that maybe Jared wouldn't be too keen on me working as an agent. "What?" He asked confused. "I want to be an agent, now I know I don't have the experience needed and I didn't finish getting my degree, so I am comfortable starting at the bottom but I want this" I took a seat across from his desk and felt the butterflies that I thought had vanished come back to reclaim my stomach. "But why this why now?" He asked staring at my resume. "Are you asking as my husband or as my interviewer possible boss...well possible boss of my new agent career" I was fumbling and I knew that he could tell I was nervous "both" he smiled

"Well, I have been on pause for the past 6 years I have been keeping myself in a safe space and never quite going after what I wanted out of fear that I didn't deserve it or that once I got it something would take it away. Even still I can't say that that fear has completely vanished, but I can't let it stop me anymore...I won't let it stop me anymore I can't give fear another 6 years. As far as why I want to become an agent, it's been my dream since I was 17 I love helping people reach their full potential, I love knowing that I was apart of someone reaching their dream. I know it's not the greatest answer and I'm rambling because I'm nervous but I just hope you can get what I'm saying" I finished and was shocked to see pride in his eyes "Okay" he smiled "Okay I got the job" I said breathlessly, I felt my body explode with energy.

"Alice, what are you doing here?" I turn around to see a scared looking Kyle "Getting a job I just got hired to be an agent" I squealed but couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was happening " Did you tell her?" Kyle asked Jared "Not yet" he replied, "Tell me what?" I was afraid Jared was keeping secrets again "We found out who called me, it was Polly she was working with David but we don't know why, or even how they met" he explained "What the fuck? Can we ever just catch a fucking break" I flopped in my chair "I was going to tell you I swear but I got sidetracked when you came in" he defended he must have feared that I didn't believe him "I believe you. This is just crazy I can't understand why Polly would do this" I sighed "We don't either so to be safe you should stay home I will get some guys to keep guard outside." Kyle placed an understanding hand on my shoulder. "Fine I can still handle clients from the house and I can schedule meetings there right?" I was determined to keep this job and not waste a moment living in fear. "Of course you can" Jared smiled at me, " I should get Bruce" I checked my watch and noticed that it was 2 pm which meant Bruce was still out with my mother shopping, ever since the David situation started I got my mother to watch Bruce for me. I left to go pick him up from my mother and tried to process all the things Jared told me.

Jared

Watching Alice line filled me with pride she had come along way, although I was going to miss her being my secretary. "So still no sign of Polly?" I asked "None she left the agency not long after you and pretty much disappeared. She is pretty good at covering up but don't worry I'll find her." Kyle explained sitting where Alice had moments ago "I know you will, it's just I'm worried about Alice. She is almost a little too fine, ever since I told her about David she seems different." I admitted " Is that a bad thing?" he asked "I'm not sure, I'm happy she regained her confidence but I'm worried she is repressing her emotions" I sighed "You're worrying too much, look you are building your own empire. Once this is done you will have everything so just be happy" Kyle explained "You're right it's about time I start being happy" I smiled, this was just a bump in the road in a couple of months this will be a funny yet disturbing story.

Alice

"Mommy mommy" Bruce was calling for me while I was trying to schedule a meeting with Kelly, who was an up and coming black ballerina who was trying to get a spot on the Nutcracker. " Yes sweetheart" I placed Kelly on hold and tried to tend to Bruce who was bouncing on the couch like a crazy person "I'm hungry," he said, "Can you please give mommy a minute?" I asked he nodded and continued with his bouncing, I returned to my call with Kelly and was glad to have scheduled a meeting for us next week. I was feeling a newfound excitement I was finally realizing my dream, and to top it all off I had a family with the man that I loved. Although the Polly situation hung in the back of my mind I was still so exhausted thinking about David terrorizing me to the point that Polly didn't phase me. Ring Ring I see my mother's name pop up on my phone, I was expecting to hear from her in regards to how I was taking this newfound threat but once I answered I heard the cool voice of Polly. Where fear should have been only anger rose, "Hello Alice" she greeted "Polly" I said through gritted teeth "Bingo, I know what you did bitch and you're not getting away with it" she sneered "What the Hell did you do to my mother?" I asked in as controlled a voice that I could I didn't want to alarm Bruce. "Nothing yet, but If you don't come to Penn's landing alone I will kill her," she said I could hear the smile on the other side of the line "Leave her out of this" I replied " Like you should have left Jared out of yours and David's situation. Look I'm done talking be at Penn's landing in two hours or say goodbye to your tacky ass mother" she hung up the phone, and I felt my body shake with rage. I went into my bedroom and pulled out the 9-millimeter gun I had bought during my time in Wisconsin I made arrangements for Bruce to stay with Ms. Agnes who was the sweet old lady living a floor under Jared's apartment. Left the building discreetly and made my way to Penns Landing this Bitch fucked with the wrong woman.
