Nishinoya always passed the music room after school to head to volleyball practice.

He doesn't remember when, but at some point he began to pay attention.

There was always one person, practicing.

The same person.

One day, they played the piano.

Another, the violin.

Then the flute.

The trumpet.

French horn.

Euphonium.

Cello.

Saxophone.

It was different every time. Sometimes he could recognize the instrument, others he couldn't tell.

But one thing he knew for sure.

They were always there, everyday.

They played songs depending on their mood. Sometimes happy, sometimes really sad.

The were there when he walked to practice, and there when he was walking out the school.

Just how long did this person practice?...

~

Soon, he sometimes found himself being late for practice, because he would sit outside the music room to listen. He became attached and familiar with the moods of the musician, he almost felt like he even knew them.

It became a habit to listen, sometimes even rush to get to the music room faster. Maybe he could find out who it is behind the door.

He didn't have enough courage to open the door, and find out.

The person was a mystery.

~

It was a rainy day.

Daichi had told the volleyball members to rest for the day, no practice.

But Nishinoya felt himself walking to the gym. He simply just wanted to play.

Walking past the music room, he heard the piano this time.

Ah, one of his favourites.

The person seemed to favour piano over the other instruments.

He was curious, so, so curious.

He opened the door a crack.

Just a crack.

He caught a glimpse of (h/c) hair flowing down.

A girl, perched on the piano bench, playing a slow, sad song.

A goddess!!! Nishinoya blushed, and resisted the urge to glomp her.

He opened the door just a tad bit wider, and of course, it creaked.

Just his luck.

Her sharp ears didn't miss the noise, and she turned around.

Even her face, was a blessing.

"Who's there?" She spoke, with a smooth and soft, melodious voice. Just like her music.

Nishinoya walked in, and sat himself beside her on a chair.

Flashing her a grin, he held out his hand.

"Nishinoya Yuu! I hear you play everyday after school, and well, I just wanted you to know your amazing! Do you play all these instruments?"

She shook his hand.

So soft... he thought, when she touched him.

"Nishinoya Yuu... the second year, libero on the boys volleyball team?" She asked.

His eyes widened.

"You...know me?"

She smiled softly.

"I remember everyone in my grade. Besides, you're popular enough for me to know."

He stiffened. She was a really pretty girl who knew who he was!

"(Last name) (first name). To answer your question, yes, I play all these instruments. I appreciate you telling me I play nicely." She rested her hand on her lap and peered at his slightly flushed face.

"Not just nicely! You're amazing!"

She blushed, and laughed softly.

He almost yelped at how cute she was.

"Yet....why do you sound sad when you play sometimes?

This took (name) by surprise, and she visibly seemed shocked.

"That's...."

Nishinoya realized how rude it was to pry into her business. He was never one to think before he spoke too much.

"Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to pry, or be rude---

"No, it's alright. I mean, it's not too bad."

And so, she began.

She barely knows why herself, but she talked.

About her insecurities, the pressure of being at Karasuno only because of her music scholarship.

And in return, he also talked.

He talked about volleyball, his teammates and much more.

They quickly became friends, and Nishinoya felt an unfamiliar feeling in his gut when the conversation died down and he settled, just watching her.

"Can you... play for me?"

It was such a simple question, and she responded.

And so, he sat there. Listening.

At the end of the song, she said she had to go.

So he walked her home.

And thus, the beginning of a friendship- and maybe something that would become more- bloomed.
