The next few weeks go by in a blur of training with Lupin, homework, and time with my friends. Translating the book gave me the worst migraine of my life as it took quite a lot of focus to be able to read the words. I got it done and then Lupin sent me straight to the infirmary, where Madam Pomfrey gave me a strong elixir to ward off the symptoms for a little while longer.

Since then Lupin has been spending all of his free time with me to try and teach me what he can figure out from the book. I'm not the best at controlling my powers though- I know the extent of them now but often when I get overemotional my hands begin to glow a little, which thankfully no one else has noticed so far.

When I'm not with Lupin, I'm studying- all of this Kitsune madness (as well as Sirius fucking Black) seems a little more important to me, but all of my friends keep assuring me that all of that stuff will still be there when I'm finished studying. Harry, however, is doing jack shit, and I can't figure out how he can stay at this school doing as little as he does. I swear, that kid is oblivious to 90% of the stuff that goes on at this school- but he knows what's really going on, which is more than I can say for everyone else here.

Things with my friends have been good- considering how busy I am all the time, I don't get to see them a lot, but it's nice to know they're there for me when I need them and vice versa.

The weeks fly by and soon it's December. The snow swirls down from the sky and settles on the ground, giving Hogwarts an eerie feeling. One day, I'm walking across the bridge and I get distracted because I realize the Black Lake is completely frozen. When did that happen? Because I'm busy thinking of this, I don't notice a certain tall ginger boy walking towards me and I collide with him, dropping all of my books on the floor.

"Are you okay?" Fred asks as he bends down to pick up my books.

I blush a little as he straightens up and grins at me. "I'm okay, yeah. Got distracted. Since when was the Black Lake frozen?"

Fred laughs musically. "Since two weeks ago, Vee." He looks down at my reddened nose and fingers and frowns. "You're not wearing a jacket, Vee! You could get a cold!"

I can't help but snort at that. "Okay, mom."

Fred pouts. "I am offended! And serious. Are you crazy?" Shrugging off his jacket, he wraps it around my shoulders despite my protests that he needs it. He turns and falls into step with me.

"Weren't you just walking the opposite direction?"

He shoves his hand in his pocket. "Yeah, but I think talking to you is a bit more important. Besides, I have Arithmancy and Vector likes me, so... I'll skip class! Where are we going?"

"I don't condone this."

"I know, but you also can't stop me. Now, where are we going?"

"Well, I have a free period, so we're going to the place I go to practice my powers, and also magic."

Fred claps his hands together and jumps up and down. "Ooh, powers! I like powers!" he pauses and frowns. "Just... don't shoot any laser beams at me, okay?"

"No promises there..."

A few minutes later, we've arrived at my spot. About a week ago I snuck out of my room and explored the castle- and decided not to do it ever again because Argus Filch's cat scares the shit out of me. It's always just kind of... there. I managed not to get caught, and in the process I found this place.
