"Savior 1-0, this is ground element."
They were out on the roof, waiting for the helicopter that would take them back to prison. Athena angrily glared at Waller as she calmly stood there, all high-and-mighty, like she was a god or something. Athena knew for a fact that she wasn't. It was extremely difficult for her to resist slashing Waller to pieces. But that meant exploding heads for everybody.
Still, something felt off about the situation, as Athena knew it was uncharacteristic of soldiers to not respond to a call.
"Savior 1-0, how do you copy? Savior 1-0, the LZ's clear." The solider glanced at Flag. "Boss, they're not talking to me."
Unless they're not the ones receiving it, Athena thought. Oh, shit....
"Our bird's been jacked," Flag replied roughly. Then he yelled to the other soldiers, "Light it up!"
Everyone else dove to the ground as gunfire went off on the roof. Athena ducked behind an air conditioner next to Floyd, with Harley right across from them.
"What's going on?" Athena shouted. "Who jacked the helicopter?"
Floyd wordlessly stared at Harley, who seemed confused by it.
"What?" Harley asked, rubbing her neck. "I got a hickey or somethin'?"
That's when Athena heard that unmistakable, maniacal voice. "Professor, could you pick up the pace?"
"Joker," Athena said quietly.
Harley suddenly glanced at a phone in her pocket, and her face just lit up in excitement. She stood up boldly, and began heading towards the helicopter.
"Harley!" Floyd shouted, starting to go after her.
"No." Athena put her hand in front of him. "Let her go. It's what she planned to do, anyway, and you know it."
"Kill her!" Athena heard Waller yell to Flag, causing Athena to scramble to her feet.
"I can't!" Flag replied, pointlessly hitting the wrist detonator. "Her nanite's disarmed!"
Athena ran over to the edge of the railing just as Harley jumped off and caught the rope dangling from the copter. Athena smiled and waved to her friend, who waved back and blew her a kiss.
Waller, Athena, Adri warned her. Waller!
Shit! Panic set in and she ran over to the rest of the group.
"Deadshot!"
Athena's heart dropped when Waller angrily addressed Floyd.
"Shoot that woman, right now!"
"No," Athena said in shock. "You wouldn't."
"She ain't do shit to me," Floyd said calmly, giving Athena a moment of relief.
"You're a hitman, right?" Waller said. "Well, I got a contract. Kill Harley Quinn. Do it and you get your freedom and your kid."
"No, you wouldn't!" Athena yelled.
"Oh, she dead," Floyd said, loading his rifle.
"Floyd, don't!" Athena grabbed his arm. "Don't shoot her. Please."
Floyd said in a voice so quiet and so quickly that Athena almost didn't hear it. "Trust me."
He positioned himself on the edge of the roof, aiming at Harley, who was still twirling from the rope. Athena balled her fist, feeling her nails scrape her palms, as one single shot rang out. Harley became limp, and Athena felt anger rising in her throat, but suddenly Harley straightened up again, her laughter fading away in the distance.
Floyd put away his rifle and looked at Waller. Then he glanced at Athena, who was a little ways behind Waller, and said, "I missed."
Athena sighed in relief. Harley was okay. Waller hadn't won this time.
"Good one, mate," Digger said to Floyd approvingly.
But then Waller spoke into her earpiece. "It's Waller. Savior 1-0's been hijacked. Shoot it down."
"Roger that, ma'am. Going hot."
"NO!!" Athena screamed, running towards Waller, but when she saw the explosion in the distance she stopped. "No!"
"Target destroyed, ma'am."
"Thank you," Waller said, sounding tired and annoyed. "Now get me off this roof."
"Yes, ma'am. We're inbound."
Facing the group, she said, "The Joker and Harley Quinn are no more."
"You little bitch!" Athena hissed, charging at Waller before Flag grabbed her and held her back. "You little shit! You Heartless, cold, wicked, evil woman! You killed her! You killed Harley!" She struggled to get free. "ʏå ẓєɞıĿ! ʏå ɢåһɞåһ! ʏåɞṅ єĿ ẓåṅʏå! ʏȗṃҡıṅȗҡ qåṭĿåһå! qåṭåĿåṭ 'åƒԀåĿ ṡåԀıq Ŀı! " She shoved Flag away and stood perfectly still, but breathing heavily in anger and sadness. "һåԀɞåһåҡ! һåԀɞåһåҡ!! ʏєĿ'åṅ å'ıĿṭåҡ! ʏєҡһŗȗɞ ɞåʏṭåҡ! 'åṅṭ qåṭå! "
"Woah, Crossbones, calm down!" Flag said.
Athena pointed at Waller, ignoring Flag. "You will regret this, Waller. I promise you that." She took a deep breath, and said in a voice that caused a sudden blast of air, "'åĿєåṅ єåĿı jåŗåʏıṃȗҡȗṃ 'ııĿåå åĿ'åɞԀ! " Then she added in a low voice, "You murderer."
They all seemed equally shocked for Athena's outburst, but she didn't care. Now Waller was going to pay for what she'd done. Maybe not at that moment. But eventually.
"You couldn't save her," Digger said quietly to Floyd.
"But I could have," Athena hissed.
Waller got over it fast and climbed into the copter.
"Standby, I'll send another helo!" she yelled to Flag, and the helicopter lifted away.
"I hope she rots," Athena growled. "I don't care where, as long as its slow and painful."
"Crossbones, you did something to Waller," Flag said when he heard her speak. "I know you did. Whatever it was, you need to reverse it."
"Even if I could, Flag, I wouldn't," Athena said. "She took away my friend, Flag. My best friend. Just because she didn't want her to be happy. She doesn't want anyone to be happy, Flag, and you know it." She backed away slowly. "A person like that.... deserves to be punished."
Suddenly one of the soldiers called Flag over. After he whispered in Flag's ear, Flag straightened up and gave Athena the most hateful look anyone had given her that night.
"Waller's down," Flag said, continuing to glare at Athena. "It's over."
