The halls of Pendleton county high school, were congested with students running in all directions to greet their friends after times and moths apart to tell them of their adventure and miss-adventures.
To my dismay, my first class of the new semester was calculus. Something that I wasn't good at no matter how much I tried, personally I didn't really see the reason in math's. I mean, who really needs to know algebra? And where in later life am I ever going to find use for surds? What are surds anyway?
I filed into the class room behind Violet and Meredith. I sat next to Violet while Meredith was 'fortunate' enough to sit next to Maisie. I put my elbows up on the desk and rest my head on my fists, I slowly closed my eyes hoping that no one would notice and think I was weird- if I stayed like this for long enough then I would defiantly fall asleep, maybe a sleep so deep that I miss the class and wake up 86 days later to find that it was winter break.
Violet bumped knees with me and I slowly opened my eyes, "It's the mysterious bus guy" she said, pointing to the front of the class, Miss Hamby was talking to him. I couldn't see his face, only the back of his head- and it was a nice head.
He removed his jacket; to show his flannel shirt underneath, reaching into his bag I caught sight of some black smudges on his shirt. Paint smudges? He was an artist, and those hands were the handles of an artist, I suddenly imaged being wrapped up in his arms, with his hand stroking my hair.
"Okay class" Miss Hamby class the to order, this semester there is going to be a change. "The first of which will be class seating arrangements" I groan ran through the class, and someone in the third row even through a book, it collided with Myles head and everyone started to laugh. "Quiet down class," Miss Hamby called out "To implement the new School rules we are incorporating in each class you will be seated in co-ed form"
The room erupted in chatter "Co-ed?" Violet turned to me "That sucks what if I get put next to Myles?"
I rolled me eyes "What are the chances?"
"1 in 24?"
"Did you just use math's?" I asked jokingly
Violet shivered in an over-reacted manner "Ew"-she wiped her hands over her t-shirt-"It's rubbing off on me"
My giggles were louder than I thought half the class turned to look at me, including the new guy, I tried to compose myself, but it became harder not laugh then only because I wasn't supposed to.
"Miss McLeod" Miss Hamby said "If there is something so funny I'm sure the rest of the class would like to know"
I shook my head, "No Miss, I think the class wouldn't appreciate that" I said trying to sound preppy
"As I was saying" Miss Hamby continued, the class started to turn back to her, I caught the new guys eyes before he turned al the way around, held them for second and realized that he was laughing.
"There will be one boy and one girl on each table, I have the boys name in one container and each girls names in another" she gestures to the purple ice-cream containers on her desk.
"And one the first table is... " she reached her hand into the container and drew out a girls name "Violet Cummings"
Violet sighed heavily she gathered her books and moved to the front of the class in the seat next to the new guy. Lucky "Okay Nick, and Paul, you'll have to move for the time being and the person sitting next to Violet is..." she pulled a named of the other container "Myles Cook" a few people turned to snicker at one another. Violet turned around to me, she looked like she might cry, after a semester next to Myles she'll smell like him- I hope its not that bad and I might actually still be her friend.
