 Chapter 5

Day 4

“So now what?” I asked.

“I dunno,” Bax shrugged back, “there’s really not much to do around here. It’s like an extended version of your little cell.”

“I highly doubt that considering the size of this place. Who lives here anyway?”

“Just your Master, Nadya and occasionally me.”

I scrunched my nose. “He’s not my “master”. “

“At this point in time, yes he is.”

“And why is that? I don’t belong to anyone”

“You just keep telling yourself that, but if you say it in front of him, you’re going to regret it. ”

“What’s he gonna do,” I jeered, “Whip me?”

“Maybe…”

“Whatever,” I rolled my eyes disbelievingly,” So does he own this place or something?” I said changing the subject.

“Yep.”

“Why if it’s only the three of you?”

“This house has been in his family for some time.”

“So why don’t they live here now?”

“That’s not really something for me to talk about. Why do you care anyways?”

“Just curious, it seems pretty weird.”

“Haven’t you ever heard of the phrase ‘curiosity killed the cat’? Don’t you realize your curiosity got you in this predicament in the first place?”

“Huh?!”

“Ah, shit. Don’t inquire any further because I won’t tell you and it’ll be just like I said, ‘curiosity killed the cat’.”

“Well cats have 9 lives anyway,” I smirked.

“Don’t try to be a smart-ass. You just keep making yourself look stupid.”

I rolled my eyes, “You’re just jealous because I’m smarter and wittier than you.”

“I have far better things to be jealous over than your low intelligence levels and lame comebacks,” he scoffed.

“Well at least my intelligence levels are higher than yours.” I mumbled.

“What was that?”

“Nothing. Can you show me around the house?” I asked cheerfully. “And to answer your next question, no, I won’t try anything. I’m just curious about this house. Architecture and design have always fascinated me.”

“Is that what you’re majoring in?”

“No, I’m majoring in business but I'm also a pre-med student."

“That’s weird.”

“Eh, I’m indecisive, and I liked being well-rounded. So, Barney, how about that tour?”

“Back to that nickname again, geek?”

“Maybe I’ll stop once you show me around, just maybe.”

I had to know this place inside and out if I wanted to get out of here. If I left in haste, without a plan, I was sure to be caught. I was smarter than that, but I knew I had to make a plan soon…I had no idea what was in store for me at this house and I wasn’t about to stick around and find out.

“Alright, just don’t touch anything. If he finds out that I let you out, he’ll have my head.

I nodded my head and followed him out of the room.

As I stepped out of the room, I was once again taken with the beauty if this castle-like place. The stairs were iron wrought into beautiful and intricate designs. The floors were covered with rich cherry-colored wood and the walls and ceilings mirrored the cherry colors of the floor.

“I’m not really sure where to take you first.” Baxter said scratching his head.

“Well how about down this corridor,” I suggested, pointing to my right.

“There’s nothing down that way except his bedroom, and no you can’t go there.”

“Well then what about the other way,” I said already beginning to walk down the hall on my left.  Well this way is just more bedrooms, but at the end there’s—well why don’t I just show you.”

As we walked down the hall, I couldn’t help but be curious as to what exactly was in all the rooms. They were spacious too judging by the expanse of the wall between each door, double doors to be exact.

“Are these more bedrooms?” I asked.

“For the most part”

“So you have all these spare bedrooms and you’re making me sleep in a cold, dusty, old cell?”

“Well technically it’s not my doing—“

“Yeah, yeah, I know. It’s my master’s doing,” I sneered.

Towards the end of the hall I could now see a massive spiral staircase tucked into a corner of the hall leading to an unknown upper level. I couldn’t hide the smile on my face, exposing my excitement. I couldn’t help but feel like I was entering a secretive place as if it were a tree-house or something.  I guess I was just silly like that, getting excited by childish things.

I bounded up the stairs and gasped when I finally reached the top.

“Woah…”I whispered as I took in the view around me. This just kept getting better and better.

The room was illuminated by large windows, stretching from the ground to the ceiling on the wall in front of me.  On the left wall were several other doors. Unlike the other parts of the house I had seen which were furnished in a luxury cabin way, this room oozed a contemporary style. No. Contemporary was an understatement. The room looked absolutely futuristic. In the center of the room was a sleek white leather sofa and several matching crescent shaped beanie-bag type things.

Underneath the sofa was a fuzzy, oddly-shaped, black and white rug. In the wall in front of the sofa was a large screen TV. Eyeballing it, it was probably around 10 feet long and 8 feet wide. On both side of the massive TV were massive CD/DVD holders with, what seemed like, endless movies and games. Below and above the TV were more shelves holding a gamer’s paradise: A Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, new and old, you name it, it was there.

“LIAR! I thought you said there was nothing to do here?” I exclaimed, running over to the endless games.

“Well we don’t exactly have “girly games” or anything you’d want to play.”

“Are you seriously stereotyping me. I grew up with 5 guy cousins, a brother, and only one other girl in my family. I didn’t exactly have tea-parties, and play with Barbies with them. I grew up with Hot Wheels, Legos, and Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo 64.”

“Well you’re kind of outdated, hun.”

I raised an eyebrow at him. “Okay, name your game.”

“Is that a challenge? What are you wagering?”

“How about winner gets to make loser do anything they want them to do?”

“As long as that ‘anything’ isn’t me revealing information or helping you escape. Deal?”

I smirked, “Deal. You’re going down Barney.”

“In your dreams geek.”
