55: Just Pretending

Shin Higaku x Mina Rai:

Shin watched from the shadows as his best friend Oka with her new boyfriend Budo. He couldn't help but feel a little jealous. He'd always been the one to protect Oka, and it felt a little weird for her to be with someone else. Part of him really didn't trust Budo, but she liked him so he had no choice but to accept their relationship.

Also watching the new couple was Mina. She had dated Budo for a few months, but it didn't work out between them. Part of her regretted their break up, and that was probably why she envied Oka. She almost wanted him back. Almost. She was still best friends with him even after they broke up.

Budo and Oka were oblivious to the 2 people watching them for the moment. He wrapped his arms around her waist, making her blush. She started laughing when he started repeatedly kissing the back of her neck.
"Budo stop." She laughed after a minute. She could sense someone was watching her.
"But Oka." He whined playfully, still holding her waist. She giggled a little, looking around her.
"Someone's watching us." She said. Budo sighed and looked around. He made eye contact with Shin for a second, before looking around and making eye contact with Mina.
"Mina! Shin! Can you both stop watching us?" He said loudly, not looking in either direction. Both of them groaned and came out from their hiding places to face Budo and Oka. "Why are both of you so intent on stalking me and Oka?" He scolded, crossing his arms and looking at both of them angrily. Oka sighed, linking her arm with his and resting her head on his arm. She was more upset than she was angry.
"Umm..." They both looked at the floor in shame. Budo sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Why don't you 2 do something together and leave us alone for a while." Oka suggested shyly. Shin and Mina looked at each other, then back at Budo and Oka.
"Fine. Sorry guys." Mina said, grabbing Shin's hand and dragging him away from the pair. Budo and Oka watched them go as Budo sighed.
"Are we really that interesting?" Oka asked, blushing. Budo smiled and uncrossed his arms, instead wrapping them around Oka.
"Apparently." Budo laughed, kissing her on the lips.

Mina stopped pulling Shin along when they reached the west fountain out the front of the school. She pushed him on to the bench and sat down next to him.
"Now what?" Shin asked, looking in Mina's direction. She shrugged her shoulders lightly.
"Do you want to be my boyfriend?" Mina asked suddenly. Shin looked up at her, very confused. She laughed at his confusion. "Not my actual boyfriend. We just pretend we're dating to annoy Budo and Oka." She suggested. Shin sighed, relieved. He didn't want a serious relationship with Mina, as he barely knew her.
"Ok, fine." He sighed as she smirked. She suddenly passionately kissed him on the lips as he kissed back.

Over time, they began to develop feelings for each other. Their fake relationship began to feel more and more genuine every time they saw each other.
"I think we need to take this relationship to the next level." Shin said as he and Mina sat alone on the rooftop. She looked over at him and blushed.
"What do you mean?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Will you be my girlfriend, for real this time." He asked. She smiled at him and nodded her head. Nothing needed to be said as they started making out. Neither of them realised they were being watched by Budo and Oka.
