Time Won't Change That

Maya's POV

Its been eight months. Eight months since he spoke to me. Eight months since we had lunch together. Eight months since we hugged eachother.

Eight months.

I don't know what I did wrong. We were friends or at least something close. Its always been complicated with us. We had feelings for eachother and agreed to Someday.

I still remember that agreement...the long game. It was my freshman year of high school. We said that Someday maybe we would be together...well things change.

I am now a sophomore in college attending NYU. Riley and I got accepted here and were lucky enough to be roomed together. Josh was great, we were great. Over the years because of his schedule we didn't hang out as much but still saw eachother. So starting here freshman year with Josh as junior was actually quite nice he showed us around went to parties with us. We had actually become great friends or so I thought.

I wish we were more but no... Josh has a girlfriend. It hurt when I found out my Senior of High school but I got over it. The long game ment we would live our lives and it wasn't like I didn't date myself, its just...no one compared to him.

Her name is Maritza and she is a nice, sweet girl. She is studying to be a children's psychologist. Very noble.
We actually hungout a few times since she had become friends with Riley. She tried being my friend but I kept her at a distance. It hurts me enough knowing Josh has a girlfriend, I don't need her telling me stuff about their relationship.

If she knew how I actually felt about Josh she would never try to be my friend.

So here I sit in my childhood bedroom dressed for dinner at the Matthews. I am just waiting for my parents to finish getting ready themselves. Tonight will be the first time I see him and I am not thrilled about it.

Later that night

We arrived at the Matthews home and everything was going great until Josh walked in alone, Maritza must have opted out of dinner tonight.

I just kept repeating to myself "ignore him." Just like he has done to you for the past eight months. I try to look busy in conversation but I can feel him staring at me. Then Josh does something he hasn't done in eight months he comes over.

"Hey Josh" Mrs. Matthews says.

"Hello Maya..." Josh says looking at me.

"...." I stay silent

He stands there waiting for a reply.

I can't take it anymore I excuse myself from my conversation with Mrs. Matthews and escape to Rileys room.

I am just sitting here at the Bay window hoping for answers on how I can handle this situation.

I did nothing wrong for him to ignore me. I shouldn't feel bad or guilty. This is on him. I am going ignore him like he has done to me.

Just then I hear a knock at the door.

I was at the mall shopping with Riley and it had been 2 months since I had seen Josh, stupidly I thought it was because of midterms until we ran into him.
