Luke had no idea how he got himself into this situation.

That being a complete lie, if you'd ask him he'd tell you every single moment that led to this event. And he wouldn't change any of them.

January 2011

When Jack decided to drag him along to some friend's birthday party, Luke only had two things in mind: cake and more cake.

What he got was pizza and some beer. Jack bailed on him the second he saw his girlfriend and didn't even turn back to say goodbye to Luke, who was sending him death glares.

"Hi, aren't you Luke?" He turned back to meet a kind pair of brown eyes that belonged to a girl with a happy birthday cap.

"Um... Yeah. Um... H-happy birthday." Great, he couldn't even speak. "I came here with my brother so I hope I'm not intruding."

"Thank you." The girl grinned widely, making him relax a bit. "You're Jack's brother right?"

After a short nod, she grabbed his hand and started to pull him towards what seemed to be the living room. "I actually told him to bring you along. It's actually my brother's birthday and I heard him talk about you once and you know... thought it would be cool if you'd come as well."

Luke immediately blushed. Who in the world would be talking about him?

"Hey, Calum." The girl shouted, making the whole group of ten or so people turn around. Luke recognized most of their faces from school and he definitely knew who Calum was. "Brought you some new company, play nicely." With that, she left the room.

Calum was a complete copy of his sister, kind brown eyes and with a wide smile on his face.

"Hi Luke, do you play FIFA?" Calum asked with a thick Australian accent and Luke could only nod before being pulled down on the sofa between him and Michael.

Michael Clifford.

"Hi." The boy smiled and Luke might have just passed out right there and then.

"Hey," Luke said shyly and quickly reverted his gaze to the TV, not wanting to embarrass himself in front of all these cool people.

It was hours later and a couple of shared beers when Luke's mum called and told him to come home. It was near ten pm and Jack and Celeste already left without letting him know so he had to walk home alone.

Not that he was scared.

Totally not.

"Hey Luke, wait up!" Someone shouted just as he made his first few steps down the road.
