I'm back! Sorry for the delay - but I'm working on getting Shatter published! It is currently going through copy - editing!! ARE YOU EXCITED!? Because I am!!!! The book will obviously be different, but the things you loved about it will be the same - don't worry - it won't change much, it will just be edited and a better version! The original will stay up for a while until publishing and then I will have to go and take out most of it - but I bet you guys can't wait to see the edited results! I know I can't!

Julien's POV

Sitting on my bed, I could see directly through to Jade's bedroom. Same turquoise walls I helped her paint when we were sixteen were staring back at me.

She said she wanted them the color of my eyes because it was such a beautiful and rare color - it's her favorite. We had to go to three different supply stores to be able to find someone that could mix it. It had to be the exact color for her.

I let out a hard sigh as I laid back on my black sheets and watched through the matching sheers as Jade slung her bag down and opened up her balcony doors, never setting eyes in my direction.

We both had a balcony attached to our rooms which were mere feet away from each other.

When we were younger, I used to have this ladder I would send over to connect our balconies and I'd just climb over to her bedroom all the time. That's how close our houses are to each other.

She was oblivious to the fact I was watching her through the black, gauzy, see-through curtains, then again, she couldn't see me.

I feel so much anger when I look at that girl. She's not the same person I used to love - my best friend. She stopped being that when she betrayed me and I found out it went deeper than just what I walked in on.

Maya and Jade were currently waxing lyrical about something, sitting on her bed while hand gestures were thrown languidly. Her piercing green eyes would go from glaring as her mouth ran, to wide-eyed in the matter of a few seconds.

She was more than likely talking about me.

I didn't know it was going to be this hard, living right next door to her. But that is what my parents' will told me I had to do. That is the stipulation on being able to get my inheritance, to live here in this house and go to school here, finishing out my senior year and graduating. That's when I get my fking money.

My mom is a complete a$$hole, God rest her soul. She always loved Jade, no matter how I felt about her near the end. I knew what she was trying to do, always pushing us together, even in her death.

I didn't have parents anymore, I'm emancipated. Eighteen and legally on my own, living in the house I practically grew up in by myself. Jade didn't know that yet. I wonder if she would even be upset over my parents death, if she even has real feelings towards anything anymore. She used to love them. She used to love me.

"Fk this." I chunked my phone on my bed, noticing a new text from a contact that had only recently been added to my list.

'Eve-licious'

I shook my head as a breath of laughter left me.

Clicking on the text, it read:

'Hey! It's Eve - of course ;) Are you going to the party this weekend? It should be fun! We should go together ;) If you want to hang out, just call me or text. I will clear my schedule for you.

I rolled my eyes at the obviously thirsty text.

I was so stupid at lunch to give Eve my phone and let her put her number in it, but she was just there at the same time I kept noticing Jade's eyes watching me like a hawk.
