"I'll set a Monster in defense mode!"

I play the card, hopeful it'll protect my life points, and end my turn. After about two weeks of knowing him, I finally accepted to have a duel with him. But that was a mistake.

The tanned, blond, lavender-eyed Egyptian boy in front of me only smirks, and orders his own monster to attack my poor unrevealed Harpie Girl.

I cover my eyes at the large energy blast before me, and when I open them again I see Marik laughing.

"And I haven't even played my best card yet!" He says. "But only because I wouldn't want to hurt you, sweetheart!"

I grit my teeth at him. Best card or not, my life points are low enough. One or two more turns like this one and surely I'd lose the duel, along with my locator card...

And my dragon.

No! I think to myself. I will not lose him!

"Well go on then, baby," he says. "Draw a card."

I growl at him and draw from my deck. I gasp when I look at the card, not knowing if I should feel happy or not.

The Red eyes black dragon, my favorite card!

I sigh. I have the two monsters I need to sacrifice in order to play my Dragon, but what good will it do? Marik set two face down cards, probably traps, and one monster in defense mode that I can't even see! If either of those cards is strong enough to beat my Dragon, we're done for.

And I can't play my best card just to see him get defeated at the first turn.

But what choice do I have?!

"Are you going to surrender?" Marik teases.

I frown at him. He's hot, but he's got an attitude. He's too mean!

I look at the card in my hands. "We're in this together." I look at Marik confidently. "I sacrifice two monster to play this card- the Red Eyes Black Dragon!"

My Dragon appears magestically on the field.

"And he attacks your face down monster!"

Lucky for us, that monster had fewer defense points, and without a problem we survived this turn.

"I end my turn."

"Destroy my monsters all you want," Marik says. "That Dragon is indeed an impressive card. But at that rate you'll never touch my life points."

Marik draws a card and puts it in his hand. "I play my face-down spell card, Block Attack, putting your Black Dragon in defense mode!"

"No!" I yell. I know exactly what his move is going to be.

"And with this other card," he reveals the secon spell, "Banner of Courage, my monsters gain 200 of attack in their Battle Phase. Therefore-"

He reveals another dragon, he must have taken it from another duelist. "Say goodbye to your Red Eyes Black Dragon."
