The Sorting Ceremony

ROSE'S POV

The door opened at once to reveal a sweet, yet stern looking professor whom I knew since my child hood Ali's dad  ~ Neville Longbottom  

"Welcome to Hogwarts" began Uncl- sorry professor Longbottom "As most of you may know, you will get sorted into houses before you all join the rest of the school for the start of term feast. The four houses at Hogwarts are, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Your house will be some thing like your family here at Hogwarts, you will sleep in your dormitories and spend your free time in your common rooms." Professor Neville looked around and his eyes found Ali's and he smiled as he continued.

 "Your triumphs will earn you points for your house and any sort of misbehaviour will lose points. At the  end of the year, the house with most points will be awarded the house cup. Any questions?" 

As nobody had any questions , professor Neville continued, "Very well, all of you please get into a line and follow me inside."

As the doors opened my eyes were greeted by a splendid sight. The great hall was lit by thousands of candles which were floating mid-air over the four tables where the rest of the students were seated. These tables were laid with glittering golden plates and goblets. At the top of the hall, there was a long table where the teachers were sitting. The roof was velvety black, dotted with stars as I had read in the book, Hogwarts: A history, the roof is bewitched to look like the sky outside. 

I quickly looked down when professor Longbottom silently placed a four legged stool in front of the first years. 

As the sorting hat started singing a song about how it is the smartest hat ever and will sort us into the four houses. It also described the four houses as follows.

Gryffindor - For the Brave , chivalrous and daring 

Ravenclaw - For the witty , creative and intelligent

Slytherin - For the ambitious , cunning and resourceful 

and Hufflepuff -  For the just , loyal and patient

 Which house Would I be best in? Dad wants me to be in Gryffindor like the rest of my family. But perhaps Ravenclaw wont be so bad, Dad didn't say anything to them when Louis and Lucy landed in Ravenclaw. He actually seemed quite happy and said that he was glad that at least someone from this family was smart.

After Adams, Anderson, Boot, Bailey, Erwin, Fletchly finally came ' Granger-Weasley, Rose'  as I made my way towards the stool, I saw my family members craning to get a look at me while whispers broke out in the hall, undoubtedly to discuss that I was the child of 2/3 of the golden trio. The hat was dropped on my head and it covered my eyes. 

'Hmmmm..' a small voice in my ear  said 'Another weasley eh?! Good good, I had faced the same dilemma with your mother. Plenty of courage no doubt. But there is great intelligence too... Where should I put you? Gryffindor is in your blood, but you will do good in Ravenclaw too... yes. I know just where to put you ...' and suddenly the hat shouted out to the hall 'Ravenclaw!'

Cheers erupted from the hall. My family was smiling at me. Lou and Lucy looked very proud as I made my to the Ravenclaw table to sit next to them. It was honestly a relief, Dad wont be too disappointed.

Mum will definitely be glad.

I was shaken from my thoughts as Ali's name was called. Honestly I didn't know who looked more nervous, Uncle Neville, who put the hat on Ali's head, Aunty Hannah, who was the matron at Hogwarts and was sitting with the teachers, Augusta and Frank, Ali's elder twin siblings who were sitting at the Gryffindor table, or Ali herself who sat under the hat for nearly 5 seconds when the hat shouted out ~ Ravenclaw.
Oh my god!
I always knew Ali was smart but Ravenclaw! At least she is in the same house as me. And honestly Ravenclaw is a very good house from what I've heard, and Aunty Luna was also in Ravenclaw. Apparently they were all thinking the same thing as uncle Neville,  Aunty Hannah, Gusty and Frankie looked relaxed. I beamed at Alice as she came to sit down next to me. One of my bestest friend with me in the same house! 

"Well done Ali! We're in the same house together!" i said to her.

"Yeah! Dad looked like he was about to faint with joy!"

"He looked very proud of you." 

"He sure did!"

 After a few more people, Scorpius's name was called. God! He was so pale, Paler than usual! He looked like a ghost. As the hat was put on his head, he looked at me. I smiled reassuringly at him as the hat covered his eyes, a moment later, the hat yelled out, Slytherin! 

Was it just me or did Scorpius really look disappointed? Maybe it was just me.

 As Al's name was called, I joined  my family in leaning towards the hat and for the second time along with most of the school. After a moment or so, the hat shouted , "Slytherin"  I started clapping for Al alongside Ali. I did not care if he was in Slytherin, he was still my brother, but we were among the few, except for the Slytherin table who did, most of the school stared at Albus open mouthed joining in a moment later.  James, if possible, looked paler than Scorpius. It was true that he teased Al about getting in Slytherin but he obviously didn't mean it. As he sat down next to Scorpius, Al caught my eye and I gave him the huge smile I always gave him indicating that nothing had changed between us and he smiled back despite being disappointed.

 I beamed and waved at my childhood bestfriend  Lorcan, Aunty Luna's son as he made his way toward's the Ravenclaw table, his twin Lysander following him soon after. As soon as 'Zabini , Skye' was sorted into Slytherin , chatter broke and in front of me, the goblets and plates suddenly were filled with food and , Well I only care about the food, thank you dad!

When we all were done with our deserts, Professor Mcgonagall stood up.

"To all those who are new here welcome. You have been already informed about the ways of Hogwarts houses and how the point system functions. To all the older students , welcome back. Mr. Filch the Hogwarts caretaker has been kind enough to have it mentioned again this year that the list of all banned objects alongside the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes products is outside his office. All students are hereby informed that the forbidden forest is out of bounds for all. That will be it for now. Now tut tut off to bed!"

Louis stood up and said in his half french accent, "All first years, please follow me towards the Ravenclaw ". As we reached the common room, Louis knocked on the door and the eagle knocker said in a sing song voice,' what has everyone heard yet never seen ?' 

"To enter the common room you have to answer the question. For example the answer to this one is, Wind."

' yes' replied the same singsong voice and the door swung open. 

My mouth fell open the Ravenclaw common was painted bronze and blue with couches and sofas complimenting the colors , grand chandeliers, and in the middle of the room, a large statue or Rowena Ravenclaw stood facing the stairs up to the dormitories. When I reached up my dorm, I found out that Ali and I shared it with three other decent looking girls ~ Hazel Scott, Scarlett Boot and Zoe O'connor. As we all talk about how Hogwarts was the place where most of our life decisions were made,  friendships, careers, enemies and ... life partners 

I went to sleep thinking about what my Hogwarts life has in store for me. Tomorrow is my first day at Hogwarts I am totally going to ace my studies.
