11. Mom

Narrator's POV

The case started off like any other for the NCIS team. Chasing down a suspect who'd murdered a decorated Navy captain, but Deeks never expect it to end in him standing face to face with a woman he thought had died so many years ago, yet there she sat bloody and bruised, tied up to a chair in the dimly lit room

Johanna Beckett, his mother. The first woman he's ever loved, the first love he'd ever lost sat staring up at him and he stood frozen in place. His mind blank, unable to formulate a single word. He couldn't believe his eyes. Was it really her?

"What are you doing Deeks? Why haven't you untied the woman?" Asked Callen as he took out a pocket knife, cutting the rope that had Johanna's hands bound to the wooden chair. Deeks still being in his trans stood there and watched as Callen helped his mother to her feet.

"Martin" She called his name, breaking him from his trans. At that moment he didn't know how to feel. Was he supposed to be happy that his mother was back from the dead, or angry at her for leaving him? He grew up more attached to her than ever before, so happy is what he went with. He didn't care how she got there, he didn't care that if she didn't die it meant she left him, all he cared about at that moment was having her back with him.

He missed the warmth of her hugs, so he held her close never wanting to let go. He missed the way his mother smelled, he missed her smile, he missed everything, so he wanted their moment to last forever "Honey I'm so sorry" Johanna began but he interrupted

"All that matters in this moment is that your okay." He told her as he helped her out of the building "Do you need an ambulance?" he asked

"No, I'm okay. It's just a bloody nose and a few scrapes and bruises. I'll manage" said Johanna

Callen: Alright, lets get you back to the boat shed. We have a few questions

They all loaded into their cars and made their way back to the boat shed where Eric and Kensi waited alongside Hetty who Deeks was sure knew his mother was alive

Hetty: Johanna

"Hello Henrietta, thank you for sending help" Jo hugged her old friend as her daughter (Kate) stepped in alongside her husband Rick Castle

Kate: Hetty what was so impo..........................

She stopped mid-sentence, the moment she laid eyes on her mother. The woman who was the only reason she decided to become a cop, the woman who's death impacted her life more than anyone could imagine possible

"Hi Katherine" Johanna greeted her daughter

Kate: Marty?

"Katie I'm still trying to wrap my head around this myself. She just popped up in the middle of our case and here we are" He explained

"Would both of you let me explain?" asked Johanna

Kate: Explain what? How you up and left us, but if that wasn't bad enough made us all believe we lost the most important person in our lives. Do you have any idea how hard it was looking at those crime scene photos of you in that alley? How long it took all of us to come to terms with your death?

"That's the one choice I didn't make in all of this. When I was stabbed and those pictures were taken they thought I was already gone, but the paramedics were able to find a pulse and I woke up three months later. To the world Johanna Beckett was dead, and my witness protection case officer made me keep it that way." Johanna explained "I left because it was the only way I could protect you"

Kate: what a wonderful job you did at that. Whatever happened to Omnia Vincit veritas. (Truth conquers all) *Latin*

"I still live by that. Katherine if you'd just listen I can better explain my reason. You know how much I love you and your brother. I would have never left my family if it wasn't my only option"

Kate: how about you focus on answering these agents questions for now?

"Fine, go ahead agents" Said Johanna

Callen: How did you get caught in the middle of a murder investigation, Mrs. Beckett?

"I was on my way home from work when I noticed this car following me. I drove around in circles a few times and after noticing the car still there I tried speeding up to lose the driver who ended up crashing into me. I woke up in that place where you found me and they kept questioning me about my handler. Witness protection officer Mike Davis who's brother they'd killed which is how I assume NCIS got involved. Officer Davis apparently wasn't giving up and they wanted to know what he knew" Said Johanna

Sam: Why target you? Witness protection officers don't usually stick around long-term

"Mine did. He lived in Houston where they sent me after my death and he became my only friend. It was an easy role pretending to be his sister, so I guess you can say we became close. We confided in one another and when his wife died we relocated to Los Angeles to be closer to his brother Naval officer Jonah Davis. When Jonah died Mike thought it was some kind of conspiracy and went off the deep end trying to figure out what really happened" Said Johanna

Callen: that explains how you got roped into this mess, but why were you sent into witness protection in the first place?

"I uncovered a pretty big government conspiracy. Decorated officers were killing off mobsters and drug dealers for money and in the center is Senator William Bracken, but the bigger threat, the real man behind things is a man by the name of LoKsat. He's who set the events of my stabbing into play and if I didn't die he would have come after my husband and our children. The only way to protect them was leaving" Said Johanna

"Mom Kate took a bullet to the chest trying to figure out who murdered our mother. Your case nearly killed her and not to mention dad. Kate arrested senator Bracken four years ago, and LoKsat has been dead for two. Why didn't you come home then?" asked Deeks

"I hadn't known when LoKsat died. Why would Mike not tell me?" asked Johanna

Sam: sounds to me like your all he had left. If he told you then you would have gone home and he would be alone. Some people aren't good on their own

"We were still friends. I wouldn't have walked away without looking back. Where is Mike now?" Jo questioned

Callen: the men who took you got to him. We didn't find him in time, I'm sorry for your loss

"He kept me away from my family for an extra two years, I think I'll be fine without him. Martin, I know my decision to leave doesn't seem like the best, but I had to protect you. LoKsat isn't someone we could have been able to find and he certainly wouldn't have thought twice about going after my family"

"We both know just how dangerous LoKsat was, we know that we'd probably be dead if you hadn't walked away from us. We can't blame you for wanting to protect your family right Katie?" Asked Deeks

Kate: I know you made the right choice, as a mother I would have done the same. I don't want to shut you out, I just need time to adjust

"That's understandable. What about you Martin?"

"I feel like our family so complicated. Shootouts, babies and people coming back from the dead. We might as well just go with it. I'm glad to have you back mom" He assured before hugging her once more.

If you're all wondering Kate is Deeks' half-sister. They share a mother, but Gordon John Brandel is still Deeks's father. Jim Beckett is his stepdad, the man who raised him after Johanna managed to escape the abusive relationship with Gordon

Johanna's maiden name was Deeks hence her son's last name
