(UNEDITED)
_____________

As the voices bellowed louder,

She covered her ears and tried,

To block the hullabaloo downstairs,

Instead her eyes glazed with tears.

She slammed shut her book,

Closed her bedroom door,

And climbed in the attic,

Blocking out the uproar.

Sitting on the window ledge,

She exhaled loudly,

Upon hearing the noise of glass shattering,

Followed by more bickering.

Anger and impatience builded inside her,

She hurled the clay pot next to her,

Grabbing her phone, she went downstairs,

And shrugged on her coat in a blur.

"Where the fuck are you going?!"

Karen shrieked from behind,

Rain didn't care to respond,

But her mother wasn't used to being ignored.

"Rainey Saulot, don't you fucking dare ignore me!"

Rain swivelled around,

"Why do you care? Are you playing your parental role on me coz I don't give a shit right now."

She jutted out her chin,

As irritation seeped in,

So with a spin,

She left the house

💫💫💫

Rain's hold on the flower bouquet tightened,

Whilst she neared the familiar tombstone,

Placing the bouquet down, she sat

Looking around, she realised she was alone

Sighing she traced the words,

On the stone,

Before wiping the tears,

That rolled down her cheekbones.

"Hey." She greeted in a broken whisper

After clearing her throat,

She said, "Hey, sis."

That came out more crisper.

She stayed silent for awhile,

Plucking at the grass in front of her,

"So, how's it going up there.? I'm sure you're not playing fair."

"Mom is doing fine. You know. The usual. They fight, break things. She is always high. He's his usual pervy self. Nothing has changed, Yet nothing is the same."

She gulped as her voice turned low,

"I don't understand how to stop it. Any of it. All of it. It's just so tiring without you beside me, Snow."

The tip of her nose burned,

"Why? Why did you do it?... It kills me, pooky, it kills me everyday to think how much I loved you but I couldn't make you stay! I couldn't make you stay, God damnit!"

To hold her composure, she took deep breaths and bit her lip.

"I'm sorry, pooky, I'm so sorry for being a useless piece of shit sister. For always being so damn consumed with my petty problems to even care about yours."

She leaned against the stone,

And laid her heart in the open,

Not giving a damn about who saw her,

In that moment.

In that moment it felt right,

to let go of something,

She's been holding onto so tight.

It

felt

like

home.
