"Green is still gross."

"Hi to you too. And green
is the bestest color ever."

"What are you, about three?"

"No actually, I'm seventeen."

"Right. When is your
birthday?"

"December twelfth.
When is yours?"

"Really? Hey that's cool.
Mine is December tenth."

"Strawberry... That's four
months away."

"So?"

"About a month ago you
said you're almost seventeen."

"Yeah, well, I get really
excited about my birthday."

"Huh, yeah I can tell."

"How tall are you?"

"About 5' 11" I think."

"Oh my gosh, Caleb. I'm tiny!"

"How tall are you? Or is the
correct way to ask like this:
how short are you?"

"Ha ha funny. I'm 5' 2""

"Wow, you're short."

"Shut up."

"Why are short people so
offended when someone
teases them about their height?"

"I don't know."

"Me neither. So what's your
favorite movie?"

"Divergent."

"Aw that's not even a good
movie."

"Yes it is. What's your
favorite animal?"

"Dogs, duh. How many
siblings do you have?"

"Two. A little brother
and an older sister.
What about you?"

"I have a little sister.
She's three."

"You guys are far apart."

"Yeah well, my mom died
when I was fifteen and my dad
married again to a woman
fifteen years younger than him."

"Caleb. I
didn't know... About your
mom I mean. Do you miss
her?"

"No. She was... well, really
depressed. She was in the
hospital most of the time. I
don't even really remember
her. She escaped from her
room one evening and went
out and... she killed herself."

"Caleb... I don't know
what to say."

"You don't have to say
anything. It's fine."

"Okay... um, do your parents
know about me?"

"No... No one does but me."

"My older sister knows about
you. I just realized something.
You might not be happy."

"What's that?"

"I won't be able to meet with
you next week. My dad, well he's
not doing the best and we have
an appointment that day with
a lawyer to discuss some things."

"Oh. Okay."

"I'm sorry! I can't help it.
But my family does come first."

"It's fine."

"Caleb. I said, I'm sorry.
What else do you want me
to say?"

"Could you stop apologizing?!
It's okay!"

"We could meet in two
weeks maybe?"

"We'll see. You'll probably
have something to do
then too."

"SHUT UP! Caleb, listen.
I can't help it that my dad
is dying from colon cancer.
I can't help it that we have
to go to that stupid meeting.
I don't want to go. If it helps,
I cried when I found out
that I won't be able to meet
you because you're... like
my lifeline I guess. You're
the only person I told about
my dad because I feel
comfortable around you. And I,
well, you're a cool guy Caleb.
And you're one of the main
reasons I'm not falling apart from
the pressure coming from my
family right now. Okay?
Could your thick skull process
all that?"

"..."

"Caleb?"

"..."

"Damnit! You mean I said
all that for nothing!?"

I hope you guys enjoyed that
because it took me forever to write it.

So, who's side are you on?

Caleb, because he doesn't get to meet Strawberry as soon as he thought he would?

Or Strawberry, because her dad's illness and her family comes first?

Personally, I think Caleb is being childish.

I might do another update in an hour or two because I love writing this book so much.

Also, this chapter is dedicated to portlytooth161
because he's a good friend, even though we argue a lot lmao. So go follow him.
