It's breathing was slow and deep. Air steamed from its nostrils and a low hissing sound rose in its throat. "Your father sought the stone." It hissed.
Leo's face suddenly paled, it felt like something was lodged in his throat.
He pulled himself across the ground, the strength of his arms carrying his body weight. His eyes were bloodshot and his jaw was clenched.
It slowly started to walk towards him, it's long, bony arms dragging in the sand.
Leo propped himself up against a tree and stared at the creature. "What are you?" He demanded.
The thing stopped.
Silence.
It's mouth started to open, exposing the rows of teeth hidden behind others. "You want to play God?"
"No." Leo replied, his voice shaking.
The thing cocked it's head. "Don't like the treasure you've found?"
Silence.
"No."
The thing seemed to be processing Leo's answer. "Then maybe I'll eat someone else." The creature turned towards the woods and slowly passed him by, disappearing into the dense trees.
Leo wanted to run, but the terror held him captive. He couldn't move.
