This Summer Changed Everything

September 1st.

My name is Lily Evans. I am eleven years old. Today is my first day inhigh school. This probably sounds like any other girls' diary, but it's not because not every other girl is a witch. Yes,you read it right. I am a witch.

Today,I am starting at Hogwarts. It is a school for witches and wizards situated in Scotland. I am a little upset about beingso far away from my parentsand not seeing them until Christmas. But, I'd be more upset if it weren't for Sev.

Sev is my best friend. He lives at Spinner's End which is not far from my home. Aside from being neighbors, we share another thing in common:he is a Wizard.

I spotted Sev when I arrived atPlatform Nine-and-Three-Quarters.

"Sev!" I called. He looked around, spotted me and called back, "Lily!"

"Shall we get in a carriage?" I asked when Ireached him.

"Yeah!" he replied.

We wondered around the first year train compartments. There were none free, so we decided to sit with two black-haired boys.

"Can we sit with you?" I asked.

"Sure" one of the boys replied. "I'm James and this is Sirius."

"Hello" I said back. "I'm Lily and this is Sev."

Sev didn't say anything to anyoneuntil we were near Hogwarts.

"What house do you want to be in Lily?"

"I'm not really sure. Maybe Slytherin with you or Ravenclaw"

Suddenly, the boy named James butted in.

"Who would want to be in Slytherin? I’d rather die wouldn't you?" He nudged Siriuswho was sitting beside him.

"My whole family has been in Slytherin" he replied, evidently hurt.
