Soos used to work for the Northwest family and was close with Dipper and Mabel. He used to help Dipper sneak Mabel off of the estate for a few hours of freedom. When Ford caught them, Soos took the fall by claiming that Dipper had nothing to do with it and it was his idea, not Mabel's. He was promptly fired. By the time Pacifica moves into town, he's working two jobs: one as the janitor at the high school and another maintaining the robots at Hoo-Ha Owl's. Dipper avoids him for a while at school because of Ford, but when he starts to break away from his great-uncle, he starts talking to Soos again and does his best to make it up to him.
Melody works at the Pines Bed and Breakfast as sort of the secretary at the front desk. She's Priscilla's right hand, answering the phone and booking rooms and dealing with annoying customers. She'll give Pacifica advice on occasion and always keeps the candy bowl on her desk stocked with only the best of hard candies. Melody and Soos start dating a little bit after the events of "Homecoming Horror Show", where Melody attended as a chaperone and Soos as crowd control/DJ/clean-up crew.
