"Komaeda."
It was an instinct. The first thing that enveloped her mind, her very being.
The first thought, first word, first breath- was him.
"[Name] -?" She heard the same voice she did, everyday. And she noted how much warmer it was. How much closer it felt.
How much it felt like home.
She turned her head towards the voice, to the best of her abilities. And her eyes widened. In the space, she had expected to find empty, sat a boy. His sharp eyes widened as he had his mouth parted. Puffy, cotton candy hair framed the boy's atractive face in soft, luscious locks.
She never knew when white had become her favourite colour.
"I... I don't... I don't understand." She said. But he sat speechless, before he blinked and shook his head, and questions of concern spilled out of his lips like water flowed down a waterfall.
"Does it hurt anywhere?"
"How are you feeling?"
"Can you still hear me? -"
Before he could continue bombarding her with questions, she interrupted.
"...No... I-I am f-fine. I... can..." Her voice was strained and hoarse. She knew she showed him magic when she saw him smile.
"I... I heard everything you said. Every day... I'm sorry I made you wait...."
"...I knew it, you really could hear me... And didn't I tell you? I'm good at waiting. I'll wait forever, if it means I'm able to be by your side again."
She smiled. Before her eyes widened.
'Eh?'
His visuals had suddenly paled, and it had become translucent. She couldn't see the bottom half of his body, anymore.
"Hey?"
Even his voice seemed more distant.
"I... I can't hear you properly!"
He looked puzzled for a moment, and he looked down, he could no longer see half his abdomen. His breath hitch, as his body started becoming transparent, even to himself.
His mind had pieced out something together, and his eyes widened. There was a tugging pull of dread, despair, at her gut, and she hoped with all her might that that feeling was wrong.
'No... Of all the times... You're going to disappear, now? I haven't even got to thank you yet! What's with that sad smile!?'
His mouth moved, but she couldn't hear the words.
Her body moved on its own, like a mechanism that had been installed, and she reached out to grab his hand, but then, it wasn't there anymore.
He wasn't there anymore.
"Wait for me."
When she pieced it together, she felt liquid pool out of her eyes.
"Wait... Please... Didn't you say you were good at waiting? Why are you leaving...?"
The silent voice that had comforted her, she couldn't hear it anymore.
It went back to existing for someone else, somewhere else, and it wasn't for her anymore. Like it wasn't supposed to be before.
'Love and sorrow, the twins... the love comes first sweet and strong, then the sorrow that we shall never again be together in this life. I can only pray that we will be reunited in the next, that God would see fit to give us more time. But for now, the loss is more than my heart can take and I feel the dark clouds looming in from above to obscure the sun. If love is a divine gift then sorrow is also, for in its enormity is the proof of what used to be.'
