Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) arrived at Medina, the Jews were observing the fast on 'Ashura' (10th of Muharram) and they said, "This is the day when Moses became victorious over Pharaoh," On that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) saidto his companions, "You (Muslims) have more right to celebrate Moses' victory than they have, so observe the fast on this day."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 6, Book 65, Hadith 4680)
Abu Qatadah narrated that:
"The Prophet (may peace be upon him) said, "Fast the day of Ashura, for indeed I anticipate that Allah will forgive (the sins of) the year before it.(There are so many blessings if you fast on the ninth and the tenth of the month of muharram. It can be either ninth and tenth, or the tenth and eleventh.
Make loads and loads of dua'as on the tenth i.e on the day of Ashura, for your parents, your loved ones and the entire ummah, and also ask your parents and your loved ones to pray for you.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless us all and guide us to the right path. Ameen.)
