The pair sat beside the tree speechless.
They both thought they were betrayed by their best friend.
One of them was misinformed, Isla knew it wasn't her.
'Why did you think I betrayed you?' Isla frowned. 'You dated my boyfriend just after we broke up.'
'I'm sorry, I thought I was in love. Duncan was so kind after I told him my parents were getting divorced.'
'What about me? I loved Duncan and the pair of you schemed to break my heart.' Isla sniffled.
'You broke my heart too!' she sneered. 'You told everyone my secrets.'
'I would never tell anyone your secrets.'
'You're lying. I only told you and Duncan. He swore he never said anything.'
'I suppose you also told Duncan about the tree?'
Claire gasps but Isla wasn't surprised.
Duncan was a bad boy, he loved the drama.
'I'm sorry, Isla, I was a terrible friend.'
Isla knew she couldn't forgive Claire all that easily, but they could try.
'Thank you.'
Claire stood up and brushed the fallen leaves from her outfit.
'Sorry to leave, but I'm going to murder Duncan.'
Isla quickly scrambled to her feet.
'We're going to do this together.'
