The night was dark and stormy; rain pelted from the sky at fast speeds.
A man woke up from his sleep due to an unordinary noise coming from an alley.
He listened closely, trying to identify the sound.
"Crying?", he said to himself.
The sad cries came from, seemingly, a small child.
His ears twitched as he left his decrepit home, trying to pinpoint the location of the child. After what seemed to be around 15 minutes, the man found a child in a wet cardboard box. She was uncontrollably shivering, and crying.
"Young one, why are you out here?", the man asked, crouching down to the child's level.
The little girl looked up, and her eyes widened.
"D-dont hurt me mister!", she covered her head with her arms.
"I don't wish to harm you. May I ask your name?", he asked, trying to calm the girl down.
She sniffled a bit.
"My name i-is (Y/N).", she answered, calming down slightly.
"That is a pretty name (Y/N).", the man stopped for a minute, "And my name is Ja'far."
"That's a nice name mister.", (Y/N) said quietly, still shivering.
"Where are your parents? Shouldn't you be at home right now?", the man asked, worried for the girl.
"I ran away. I can't go back. Mommy and daddy fight to much. And daddy hit me, so I ran.", (Y/N) explained, huddling herself into the corner or the soaking box.
'That's awful. I must help this child.', Ja'far thought to himself, paternal instincts kicking in; his tail slightly twitched due to anger at the parents.
"Would you like to come home with me (Y/N)? I can take care of you.", he offered, holding his hand out.
(Y/N) thought for a moment, and deciding that she trusted this man, she took his hand.
"Would you like me to carry you?", Ja'far offered.
"Y-yes please.", she said in a small voice.
As the man picked her up, the girl noticed the feline ears on the man's head.
"Mister Ja'far, may I pet your ears?", she asked, almost all of her fear fled.
"Sure, just please be careful."
"Yes sir.", (Y/N) said, reaching up and gently scratching the feline feature.
She seemed awestruck.
'I must protect her at all costs. She has been through a lot; I shall raise her as my own.', Ja'far thought to himself. As the months passed, (Y/N) and Ja'far had grown close. They survived together by 'borrowing' food items from merchants. With his cat-like abilities, Ja'far had managed to keep himself and his little one under the radar. He had grown to love and cherish (Y/N) like she was his actual child.
One day however, a raid went terribly wrong. The young girl stood against a wall, clutching to the loaf of bread like a lifeline. Tears streamed down her face; five guards surrounded her at all angles.
"Girl, put down the bread and come with us, or we will have no choice but to use force.", the main guard said, inching closer and closer to little (Y/N).
"No! You can't take this! It's for me and dad!", she said, moving closer to the wall.
"You and dad huh?", the guard said, look around at his comrades. 'Maybe we can catch that blasted theif using the girl.', he planned out.
"You've left us no choice.", the soldier said, stomping towards (Y/N).
He gripped her shirt and lifted her up.
In the process of doing this, (Y/N) dropped the precious food item.
"No! You big meanie! Let me go!", the girl began to squirm in the man's grip.
the situation began to overwhelm the girl.
"JA'FAR!", (Y/N) called at the top of her lounges. The yell echoed through the alley; hopefully they could be heard by him.
The man's ears twitched with a sudden quickness.
As he stood up from where he was sitting.
Since his hearing was enhanced due to his cat-like hearing, he heard his name being called from blocks away.
'(Y/N)!'"We knew you would come.", a guard said, looking the opposing man up and down. He noticed the snow white tail and ears, and he also saw the crazed look in the man's eyes.
They looked feral.
"Release her.", Ja'far demanded.
"You must turn yourself in first."
"I said release her!", Ja'far stated, his voice gaining a deranged tone to it.
He looked to the little girl he swore to protect. She was sobbing, and looked to be in pain.
"Follow our wishes, and she shall be set free.", the guard said, holding (Y/N) closer to him.
"Help me Ja'far!", the girl pleaded; it was barely audible through her sobs.
"You fools leave me no other option.", Ja'far said, bringing out his knives.
"What the?", the center guard questioned as the knives shot past his head. They pinned his comrades in the chest.
The men fell to the ground in a bloody mess.
The center guard was paralyzed in shock.
"I warned you.", Ja'far said, shooting his wires around the man's neck, pulling it in terribly tight.
The guard dropped, his head decapitated due to the pressure that had built up.
(Y/N), covered in blood, couldn't speak. She didn't know Ja'far could kill.
"You'll be safe now (Y/N).", Ja'far said soothingly, picking up (Y/N), and carrying her back to their abode.
"You're safe."----
