Ellie was staying at Mrs Mayers house.

For the first time in a very long time, she felt like she belonged somewhere.

And she was happy.

Is this where my life takes a turn for the better?

Ellie thought.

Well, did it?

•••

I look around the small yet comfy looking room that Mrs Mayers assigned to me and said 'This is your room, stay here whenever you like' and then she tossed me some extra house keys and then left me with her grandson, Nick.

The room is plastered with a yellow wallpaper and red bed sheets, the room doesn't look like it's about to win the most fashionable room award but I guarantee you that it looks good enough for Donald Trump and Queen Elizabeth to have a tea party here.

I sit down on the bed as I trace over the white flowers on the sheet.

"A bed! Wooooo!" I scream in happiness.

What a weirdo.

True. But I haven't been on a bed for the longest days of my life, and I was waiting for this moment for a long time.

I have nothing to fill the drawers or the closet so I take my time to slowly put the cover sheet over my body.

After doing so, my eyes feel heavy so I let myself sleep in someone's house that I have never known before properly.

Nick
"Nick! Darling can you take out the cookies from the oven please? Oh, and also ask Ellie nicely if she wants to come and have some tea and freshly baked grandma's cookies dear." Granz asks me with a soft smile.

I nod as I take out a pair of oven gloves, taking out the the tray filled with delicious looking cookies as I sit the tray on a  different wood tray.

Taking the gloves out, I head towards the guest room, to see Ellie  peacefully sleeping on the bed as she softly snores.

I head inside as I crouch down next to the right side of the bed where she's asleep.

Her rough brown hair is pulled into a bun and her skin is pale white with almost no colour.

Her left hand which is under her head is holding her head and her right hand is sticking out.

I notice long scars on her arm and wrists. I put my finger on her wrist, as she wriggles.

She startles as her head jerks up.

"Hey Ellie. Granz wants you to taste her special cookies. If you don't want it, I can have your share because man, they taste nice."  I swing my arms.

"Huh? No, I'll be there." She stutters as she gets up, covering herself in the bed sheet.

"Okay, I'll be going to the kitchen now..you can still change your mind you know?"

"Nick dear! Is Ellie awake?" Grandma shouts from the other side of the house.

"Yes, and she wants to give her share to me!"

"Hey! I did not say such a thing! I'll have my own cookies for myself, thank you very much." She swats my arm as she giggles.

She's beautiful.

And even more charming when she laughs.

"Okay, but whoever gets there first wins, deal?" I say raising my right eyebrow.

"Bring it on loser." She says before I fly away from the room.

"Hey! I haven't gotten up, you cheater!"
Ellie shouts behind me.

"Losers booze Ellie!" I shout back.

"Ew! You're disgusting nick!" She says as she jolts out of her bed, running towards me.

I run faster and through the doors, as I smack into my Grandma.

"And i thought I asked you to ask nicely ." Granz lifts her eyebrow at me as she taps her feet on the floor wood boards.

"This is the least I could do. Now cookies!"

"No cookies for you, I'm giving your half to Ellie."

"Come on! Please! Pretty please with a cherry on top?" I beg.

                                  •••
Ellie
"Gosh, I haven't even woken up yet and  it feels like I ran a marathon." I mutter as I enter the kitchen to find Nick on his knees begging. As for his Grandma, she's just looking at him, somewhat cross, but with a soft twinkle in her eyes.

Clearing my throat I enter with soft steps. Their heads turn around, one with a warm smile and the other one, well, the other one looks like a 3 year old who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas.

"Ellie, dear you're awake!"

I'm quite aware of the fact

"I was talking to Nick and he kindly agreed to giving his cookies to you." That sounded much worse than it should've but I shrug the thought away as I face Nick who looks like he had too much cranberry juice as his face is a dark shade of red.

'You alright?' I mouth to him but he seems to get even more upset than before. "Here you go sweety." Carla hands over the plate of cookies. "Oh no, that's quite alright, I think someone wants their share more than I do." I say, eyeing Nick who seemed to have a tug of smile on his face, but soon sees me as he puts on a poker face.

"Did Nick say something to you? Oh Nick!" Wow. "It really is alright, I'll just have my half, thank you though."

"Well okay-" and as soon as she says that nick plops up and hugs his grandma. "I wasn't finished Nick. You have to do what Ellie asks of you, or else you know what's happening." Carla confirms.

"Yes yes I know very well, now my cookies!" Nick says reaching for the plate as Carla hands him over the plate of deceivingly good looking cookies.

I can feel it

And it's coming soon

Sooner than I thought

Sooner than we all thought

Would the time be enough for me to cherish these moments?

Ellie's stomach churns.
