It's 6pm but the sun is still yet as bright as it was when it had risen early in the fresh morning due to daylight savings. Daylight savings is what I enjoy throughout the year. Some evenings I can feel the sun for longer than other days and other days I can have the starry night all for myself for a longer time. Currently the birds are chirping outside and people are rushing over to catch their buses and trains, meanwhile Nick and I are at the hair salon waiting for my turn.
"I know exactly the style I want on you! It's going to be a surprise El!" Nick says giddily as he looks over at me. "I hope it's not something too rough that'll make me look like someone who hadn't taken a shower for days." I say only to realize that that's what I've already gone through. My smile drops but Nick throws back his head as his hair flops with his shaking head and his white teeth show me their brightness and happiness.
"Your face was hilarious! Ellie think
Before you speak." Oh the ironyBefore I can reply a dark skinned lady with frizzy brown hair and a beautiful smile comes up to me with a hair styles magazine in her left hand and a note book and pen in her right hand.
"Ma'am, what hair style did you want again?" She says looking over at me whilst waiting for me to answer.
"Oh he's choosing for me." I inform her, pointing towards Nick who still has a smile on his face as I pick up my water bottle. "Oh how sweet!" She says clapping her hands together as she brings them up to her chest. "Totally couple goals!"
I start choking on my water as I rub my chest. "Are you alright?" Nick whispers in my ear as he leans over to me whilst tapping my back. I nod and look back up at the saloon employee.
"Well, I pick this style but please do not inform her yet of the style I picked, I want it to be a surprise." Nick says as he covers up the magazine from me. The frizzy hair lady also known as Rachel, I got that from the tag on her chest by the way, scribbles down something on her notebook as she nods to what Nick is telling her.
"Please follow me to this seat. You may relax and read one of the magazines whilst we work on your hair." Rachel says after she sits me on the seat. Around 3 other saloon artists come around me and lay different hair tools and different shaped boxes which I'm assuming has stuff for my hair on the counter in front of me.
She first washes my hair with a head and shoulders shampoo and then conditions it with a similar looking bottle. But as soon as I look up she tilts my head down and instructs me to not look as this will be a 'surprise.'
After around 20 minutes and 10 minutes of me sleeping, the work on my hair, nails, toenails and makeup is done.
I'm taken over to Nick who is sitting in the waiting room couch, with one leg over the other and his phone in his hands he looks over at me as he rapidly blinks.
"Oh my god! I look bad don't I?" I start to panic. I knew this wasn't a good idea at the start, I shouldn't have agreed with him on this.
"No, uh, you look" Nick says as he scratches his neck.
Ugly? Like a monster? Horrifying?
"You look beautiful." Nick completes as he looks me in the eye. "I don't know how to explain it I mean, you look stunning, not like you didn't look good before bu-" Nick rambles.
"She gets it boy! He wants to say that you're a total work of art! Now it's time to see yourself! Are you ready my girl?" Rachel says but before I can answer she holds me from my wrists and pulls me back into the 'Professionals Art room' where there's a mirror.
I'm told to close my eyes and follow Rachel to see my reflection that I've oh so daringly been waiting for for my first time. "Now open your eyes Ellie."
