Dim lights from the sidewalk was all that was giving light in the late summer night. The sun had almost disappeared by the horizon, despite this, the air was lukewarm.
Minhyuk patiently waited behind a tall bush. His legs ached from standing in a crooky position for too long. Yet he couldn't give up he thought, squinting his eyes in direction to the huge house nearby.

"Minhyuk, we shouldn't be here." Kihyun whispered from behind. He was not the type to be out late at night, especially not if the reason was to sabotage. He still had agreed to join when Minhyuk had asked him to, convinced that it would be fun.

"Don't worry, silly. I promise it'll be worth it. Just have patience." Kihyun's troublemaker friend assured, picking up a set of stones from the pocket of his beige shorts. Kihyun himself thus started to get rather anxious by the thought of pranking one of his friends as he got reminded everytime his eyes couldn't help but wander to the mailbox marked with "Chae". Kihyun demanded justice at all points and couldn't push himself to do something that could be actually hurtful. "I don't think this is fair." He said, pulling Minhyuk's worn out t-shirt.

Minhyuk turnt around and rolled his eyes, still holding the stones in his hands. "Not fair? You deserve nothing but revenge for what Hyungwon did to you the other day. He did it on purpose and believe me, it wasn't just a joke, Kihyun. If Hyungwon wants war, he's gonna get war. Besides, if I make that window up there shatter-" He justified skillfully, pointing up towards the window on the very top floor of the house. "-We all know Hyungwon's family can pay for it. This rat is rich. Now trust me and throw your own stone when the lights in the room gets turnt on. This will be fun." Minhyuk rambled, nodding at the stone that the chubby hands of his friend held in a tight grip.

"Whatever, if they see us, you'll pay for the glass." Kihyun sighed, feeling how this was not the first time Minhyuk convinced him to do dumb things. He got no answer.

A couple of minutes passed when suddenly, the bright light from the top window of the white house in front of them made up of at least three floors revealed the familiar silhoutte in the close distance. It was indeed belonging to the tall and slender classmate Chae Hyungwon or "frogwon" as Minhyuk prefered to refer to him nowadays.

Minhyuk turnt around quickly to face Kihyun. "I'll count to three and we throw the stones." He excitedly whispered as he grabbed the boy's hand to get him standing up. The whispering thus came off mostly as mouthing.

"One..." Minhyuk mumbled as he prepared to throw his stones against the fancy glass. "Two..." The glance of his met Kihyun's worried face but all he could do was flash a bright smile before yelling "THREE!!"

The two boys flinged their stones with all of their might and just as calculated, most of them hit the glass of Hyungwon's, shattering it into a thousand of pieces. A loud scream followed. Both of the friends started laughing by the thought of Hyungwon's shocked face.

"Run!" Minhyuk demanded, taking the lead with his fairly fast sprint. Kihyun followed him as fast as he could with his slightly shorter legs. His brown bangs got brushed back in the wind caused by the speed. The sight of it alone made Minhyuk's heart pound even more but luckily it wasn't noticable as they were both busy running as fast as they could along the empty road, leading home.

After a matter of seconds, they spotted the playground belonging to the neighbourhood. Minhyuk threw himself on a swing, grabbing it tightly by its metal chains attached on both sides. He breathed heavily, almost hyperventilated and a pink, almost red colour could be hinted on his cheeks from the athletic prestation. Kihyun did the same thing and the only thing they did was staring at each other with wide smiles covering their faces.

In the end, they couldn't help but burst out in uncontrollable giggles which escalated into loud laughing. "I told you it'd be fun!" Minhyuk teased, smirking in Kihyun's direction who nodded.

"You were right..." He admitted even though he hated being wrong, sitting down on a wooden table painted in dark green placed just centimeters away. The slightly older one joined him and digged in his pocket for his long saved treasures.
It was two lollipops. A pink and a green one.
"Here." He said, shoving the pink coloured lollipop into Kihyun's hand while he himself took the green one.
"Thank you."

There they sat in the dark, mellow night, gazing out over all the houses around them. Some with soft light coming out of the small windows. Others were completely black. The scene was dream-like and felt oh so peaceful. If Minhyuk could, he would save the moment and keep it forever in a little box.
The taste from the sweet lollipop melting in his dry mouth, the satisfying silence, darkness making him forget whatever was waiting tomorrow. If he just tilted his head a bit to the side, he could see the boy he loved the most. He maybe didn't feel the same but he still meant the most to Minhyuk. Everything was perfect.

"Minhyuk..." Kihyun's quiet mumbling cut through the stillness, making Minhyuk freeze for a second. He swallowed and let out a short "yes?" and waited for the other to continue.
Folding his hands over his chest as he always did, Kihyun swinged his bare legs back and fourth as he finally opened his mouth to speak. "Did you- Did you really mean what you said that day?" He asked with a hesitant undertone.

Minhyuk did his iconic blinking with one eye blinking before the other as he scratched his neck, taken aback by the straight forward question. "Do you really think I'd lie about such a thing?" He finally answered, giggling sadly.

"Maybe? I mean-" The now nervous boy beside him squeeked quietly but got interrupted before even finishing his sentence.

"No, Kihyun. I wouldn't lie about what, more like who I treasure the most in the world." Minhyuk shook his head without meeting that whoms flustered expression. The who that he knew he could never have.

The only thoughtless thing Kihyun could manage to reply with was "Oh...I see."
Still he had so much more to say. So extremely much more. But he couldn't bring himself to as hard as it was for him to be honest with himself. As hard as it was for him to let go of his undying pride. He had so much to say but who would know when not a single word was spoken to change a thing. To bring the picture-like scene to life and change the sad expression on Minhyuk's face.
Only the dark void of the night, the summer air and windows appearing as lights from afar. Everything remained the same. Still Kihyun had so much to say.
