Chanel's POV

"I walk on water
But I ain't no Jesus
I walk on water
But only when it freezes
'Cause I'm only human, just like you
I been making my mistakes, oh if you only knew
I don't think you should believe in me the way that you do
'Cause I'm terrified to let you down, oh..."

I sat in the studio watching my mom sing. I was playing as her engineer for the day.

"Chanel!"

"Huh? Yeah?" I answered after hearing my name being yelled.

"I said did you get that." My mom said.

"Oh yeah, I did." I said nodding looking at the vocal waves on the computer.

"Play it back." She said and I did.

Watching my mom lay vocals is still amazing to me. She's just different.

"Imma do it again." She said.

"You sure? That was bomb." I said.

She checked her phone.

"I don't have to pump for another hour. Let me get that back."

I nodded and cued it back up.

I watched her do another take and another until she felt it was where it was suppose to be.

She came out the booth and sat at the controls while I played it. I personally thought she sounded amazing as always.

After it finished playing she sat back and looked at me.

"What you thinking?" She asked.

"Nothing. Why?" I asked.

"What you cooking up in that head of yours?" She asked and I smiled.

"We working on a mixtape." I said.

"I knew you couldn't sit still." She said laughing. "So you gonna tour and record?"

"Yep." I said nodding. "I'm tryna collab with a lot of people."

"Who you thinking about?" She asked.

"Upcoming artist. Got a couple people already lined up." I said.

"You not tryna tell me?" She asked.

I bit my lip.

"No yet but I wanna try some new stuff." I said.

"Like?"

"I wanna tell a good story. I wanna call it The Art of Storytelling." I said and she just looked at me. "I also wanna do some remixes too if they fit into the story."

"You rapping or singing?" She asked.

"Both." I said. "I already did the 6lack song 'Problems'"

She nodded slowly. "A remix?"

I nodded. "Play it."

I went through the computer files and played it for her. Rachel had already mixed it. I did it two months ago.

I watched her listen to it while she leaned back in the chair nodding to the beat. Of course I made the track from a woman's point of view. She looked at me when it was over.

"Play that for your dad and then release it day of the first show." She said.

"You like it?"

"Yeah, you sound good but be mindful of the songs you pick and who you collab with. Don't have your name attached to some dumb shit." She said and I nodded. "Aight, come on. I gotta go pump."
