Have you been waiting for that kind of book where the MC's goal is not conquering the world or getting revenge, but rather being a layabout (which she sort of fails at)? Or how about an MC that gets strong, powerful, and rich on her own before all the romance action takes place? So that she can show off to the Male Lead how she got here all on her own? Or how about a book full of food porn? (For the food porn, you'll have to read from the original source—volarenovels)
This book was certainly interesting and fun reading. The Male Lead was antagonistic to the MC right away, but she ended up showing him up anyway. You'll dislike him for treating her that way at first but also sympathize with him when he recounts all his grievances from his past life because of the original Female Lead of the novel our MC was reading. But as the story progresses, they do get closer and their romance really starts to take shape. I just love how he kept doubting all of her good intentions for something evil, but when she reciprocated his blank letter to her with a blank one of her own (they were supposed to write letters to each other while he was away), he felt all offended and betrayed when it was him who started it.
But besides him, there were other aspects of the story to love. For one, there is the MC's princess best friend. She's so sweet and naughty and worth reading the book for (many readers actually ship her and Chu Lian). She's not your typical side female leads.
And then Chu Lian is a unique MC of her own. Like there were many times that she bribed her husband's servants with food. Yes, food. Apparently, the people of this dynasty have never eaten something tasty before in their entire life by modern standards, and every recipe is guarded as a secret and treated as a treasure worth a gold. Thankfully, Chu Lian has come and she's here to save them all (or their taste buds).
