cry me a river

lacrimation, the non-emotional shedding of tears.
but crying..
crying is the opposite.
crying is the shedding of tears in response to an emotional state.
-its a raw reaction of humanity.

it is true that
we cry when we laugh.
the pure bliss from the tear that represents anything but a sad moment.
the tears only a display of jokes and happy times.
the "don't worry i'm happy" smiles that hurt but keep happening.
the tears a glowing river, as clear as water.
nothing complicated,
nothing gory.
but, sometimes and most often it's the negative things..

we cry because we are sad.
we cry because we cannot take the shaking going on in our heart.
like an earthquake...
only worse.
the shrills that crack through your body before you shed the first tear
the lump in your throat, begging and aching to be flattened.
our eyes becoming raisins after.

we cry when we are frustrated.
our hands shaking with anxiety,
not being able to understand what's inside of us,
inside our brains, our hearts, our bodies.
when we're frustrated at ourselves,
at the decisions we decide to make.
decisions simply based off of gut feelings.
when we're frustrated at others,
even if we try not to let them get to us.
their words like the ghosts in a haunted house.
the house being our heads..

we cry because they break our hearts.
the heart, the most important muscle that works hard to keep us alive.
if they remember what it takes to keep us breathing,
you better fucking realize it'll remember everything. every hurt.
every scratch.
every shard of glass being embedded into the left and right ventricles.

we cry because we feel hopeless..
we feel like we are not enough for a boy or a girl to love us.
love us for who we are.
life has become the pageantry of vanity..
social media telling us to stay skinny!
and to always be pretty!
but what if the only times you feel skinny are when you feel full after your first bite.
what if the only times you feel pretty are when you get validated by someone else.

and the worst part is, there's no drug to cure it.
nothing can cure the hurt that follows the tears.
and that's what we cry about the most.
