Well, dinner is awkward to say the least. I mean we we're all talking and having a good time but I know that something is up. Taylor and Payton have been giving each other this look all night and its really getting to me, I mean they're my best friends. They should be able to tell me when things are going on. Not only that but Mal has been distant all night too. This is not the time for everything to start falling apart. But I wouldn't be surprised if everything did fall apart, when things get really good it doesn't last long.
"Cody!"
I jump slightly and look up at everyone.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"We were calling your name but you weren't responding." Carli says.
I look up at Kac and she gives me this look, and I just nod. People will tell you this all the time, twins can sense when the other is upset or hurt. With Kac and I that's and understatement, we know when the other is sick or hungry. I mean it gets freaky sometimes.
"Sorry, I was thinking about something." I explain.
Carli just nods her head, knowing to drop it and maybe we would talk about it later. I look at Mal and she's pushing her food around on her plate. Now I know for a fact that something is wrong. She isn't eating and Mal loves food. I sigh and take her hand but once again Mal lets go of my hand. I get Mom's attention without making a big scene and motion towards the door. She nod her head and clears her throat.
"So as lovely as this has been I'm more than sure you guys are tired from traveling all day."
Payton and Taylor nod their heads, I knew they would want to leave. Our waiter comes over to our table and Mom asks for the check.
"Carli and I got it, you guys should head back to the house. We will meet you there." Mom says.
Seriously? I thought Mom had my back! I was going to ride back with her and Carli. I internally groan and get out of the booth. We get to the parking lot and I grab Mal's hand, not letting her get in the car. Everyone gets in the car and when the doors close I take a deep breath.
"So, what give? You haven't looked at me since we left the house and every time I try to hold your hand you pull away from me." I say.
"Its nothing." Mal mumbles.
"Babe, look at me."
But Mal keeps her eyes on the ground. I take her chin, lifting her head up. When she finally looks at me I look into her eyes looking for a sign or something.
"Its just, I'm not feeling good that's all." Mal says.
Bull, she's lying to me.
"Okay, let's go."
Mal lets go of the breath she didn't know I knew she was holding.
We get into the car and the drive back to my house is silent, an uncomfortable silent. Kac pulls into the garage and I can't help it.
"Taylor, Payton, I need to talk to you guys." I say.
Fear.
Fear is what I see on their faces.
Mal and Kac get out of the car and head into the house.
"Okay, I'm just about ready to go off on everyone. You two have been giving each other this look since you got here, you told me it was because of Alex. But I already know what happened with Alex so either you're lying to me or I'm just going crazy!" I yell.
"Cody, its not that simple." Taylor mumbles.
"What isn't simple? We've been friends since elementary school and it hurts me to know that you can't tell me what the fuck is going on." I say.
"Look, this has nothing to do with Taylor, its me." Payton says.
I look at Taylor and they nod their head. I motion to the house and Taylor gets out of the car, once they are in the house I turn and face Payton.
"Payton what-"
I feel lips on mine, and they aren't my girlfriend's.
I pull away instantly and look at Payton with nothing but shock and confusion. Payton get out of the car and runs into the house.
My best friend just kissed me.
