"guys we should really go to sleep," ashton looked cautiously at luke, who'd protested so violently the last time he'd suggested that. an hour ago, luke probably would have fought him. now, he was exhausted, his head drooping against the pillow.

"yeah, you're right," luke agreed.

calum just yawned in response.

michael stayed quiet, locking his phone and slipping it into his pocket, hoping no-one noticed.

but calum noticed.

"you better not read any by yourself," he warned.

michael held his hands up in defence. "have you no faith in me cal?"

"no i don't," calum said bluntly.

ashton sighed. "michael's not gonna read any, okay?"

luke scoffed, but didn't protest.

"whatever," calum said before following ashton and luke out of the room. michael let out a breath that he hadn't even realised he'd been holding. he took deep breaths, waiting nearly an hour with his hands clutched to his chest.

they were definitely asleep now, right?

michael allowed himself a small, sly grin as he fished in his pockets for his phone. he was extremely aware of how loud he was breathing and how loud his heart was beating and-

stop being a pussy clifford.

michael slid his finger across his phone screen, unlocking it. he pressed the little blue icon of the tumblr app that he'd installed earlier that night. opening his messages, he scrolled back up to january 2016.

fuck it, he thought before beginning to read.
