"hello?" you asked, confused with the random caller.

i couldn't even help the smile that found it's way to my face.

"yeah, hey. um, it's ash. ashton."

oh shit, what if you didn't even remember my name?

"hey ashton." i could almost hear your smile, which made me smile even bigger.

"how's the project coming along?" you added.

i sighed, the smile leaving my face for a second.

"i got a b."

there was a silence for a few seconds and i could tell that you were thinking about what you could have done wrong, so i stepped in.

"no, no, it wasn't your fault. im just illiterate as fuck." i laughed, hating to admit it.

you giggled, obviously not caring.

"he literally wrote on the paper, 'learn how to spell, irwin.'"

i said, imitating my teacher's voice.

that made you giggle even more.

we went on talking for a while longer, maybe 10 minutes, maybe an hour.

to be honest, i lost track of time.

neither of us wanted to hang up, and that's how i knew that this was going to work.
