Jupiter's rocky core most likely came together less than a million years after the solar system began it then began to gather up gas and dust. Thomas Kruijer was the co-author of the study, which was the very first to use lab results to study Jupiter’s birth. The solar system started off as a disk of dust and gas exactly 4.6 billion years ago. The planet grower to great size and was a huge gas giant. The planet is not just a gas giant, it also protected the inner solar system from stray meteorites. Jupiter's gravity was strong enough to pull passing rocks into its orbit so that the inner system was safe. This protection saves the inner planets from being destroyed by meteors.
