-고 있다 is used to express actions in progress or repeated actions. It has the same meaning as 'to be doing (something)'. It is usually used with 지금 (now) when it is used to express an action in progress and 요즘 (these days) when it is used to express a repeated action.
-고 있다 is always attached directly to the end of verb stems
읽다➡ 읽고 있다
씻다➡ 씻고 있다
하다➡ 하고 있다
EXAMPLES:
나는 신문을 읽고 있다
I am reading a paper
나는 음악 듣고 있다
I am listening to music
동생은 컴퓨터게임을 하고 있다
My sister is playing a computer game
