LENA POV
"You're sister? But how? When?" I asked my wife along with Mike as the three of us sat in the breakfast area along with Callie who was pouring coffee. The two had just broken the news to us that not only had Stef's father passed but that he left a will and that Roxy was his daughter. Right now even I didn't know how my wife was feeling as she puffed on her cigarette and Mike rubbed his forehead.
"Well babe he had an affair. I guess right after I was born."
"I mean yes I know how I just meant, jesus, he couldn't tell either of you."
"Not shocking. That's how he was." Mike said letting out a sigh as Callie took a seat on my wife's lap and Stef gently wrapped her around her wasit. "And he left her money."
"Guilt money." Stef said. "Which her fat fucking ass doesn't deserve. Not a fucking dime of it and I don't believe shit unless her fucking ass gets tested."
"Well by law we have to do what his will says Stef."
"Not if we trash the fucker."
"I wish sis. But we can't. As much as I want too. I mean I agree with you his word is not enough for me either and no we can't do shit about the money but whether she is our blood sister or not...
"Half sister. If that. And let me tell you blood doesn't mean shit. Especially in this case. Fuck her and fuck him."
"How much did he leave her?"
"50,000."
"Lord and what about you both?"
"Nothing. Bills is about all. He didn't have life insurance so his funeral is out of pocket." Mike said.
"Fuck him. Dump his ass in the ocean." My wife said.
"Stef we gotta have something. The will didn't mention what he wanted done so it's up to us."
"Well then let his daughter do it."
"Look I'm not asking you to chip in Stef and.I know money is well Judy and I can cover it."
"We can contribute something." I said glancing to my wife who I could see was ready to kill someone as Callie gently rubbed her back.
"Mike no. You and Judy don't do anything for him. Fuck him. You work hard for your money both of you. I don't want my brother or my sister in law spending a dime on him. You spent enough with that home you had in him in and he never did a thing for you. Nothing. Dig a grave and it's done. Fuck him."
"Sis even if we don't do anything for him, nothing, I still have to tell Roxanne."
"Oh please let me."
"Mom no!" Callie said worried.
"Stef. No baby." I said as she flashed me a look. "You can't be near her. That's what she wants."
"Listen I gotta head home and take the kids to school. I'll give you call later."
"Yeah. How's my babies?"
"Miss their mom. But Frankie hasn't cried and she has a countdown on her wall for Friday. Marked with hearts and stars. Focus on that Stef. Let me handle Roxanne and the will and stuff. You take care of your family."
"Mike you are my family."
"Yeah I know. Listen um walk me out? I left something in the car for you."
"Sure. Up babygirl." She said to Callie who stood up and took her seat. Despite everything it was nice to see how close Stef and Mike had become and him and his wife would prove to be stable and reliable people for all of us. But this news about Roxy felt like a ton of bricks for no matter what we did we couldn't seem to get her out of our hair.
