You had been in the forest with your friends. Why? You were still questioning that yourself. Full grown women, walking down a forest playing childish games. But as you stood at the mouth of a looming tunnel, your breath hitches. Staring down that pinhole of darkness. But the females behind you continued to laugh and jeer. It was a dare they had told you to do. "Go on Y/N!! Just go through the tunnel!!!" They had joked and sniggered as you rubbed your arm cautiously. "I don't know... who knows what lurks down there" you had said unsure. You eyed the ever growing corridor with fear and backed away bumping into the smiling statue. Your so called 'friends' laughed again and elbowed each other. "Okay Y/N, we'll just tell Kuro that you took his phone number from the college register" they threatened, thinking this was hilarious. Kuro, was the one man you had actually come to love. Now, he may not have known that of course but... you were friends. That's what mattered. You could say he was a potential love interest... Typical these so called 'friends' would so willingly and easily give up a long held secret of yours. But- they wouldn't do that... would they?... "We're waiting Y/N!" Hiiro tapped her foot impatiently. You took a deep breath and turned towards the dark tunnel.

Your gonna be fine Y/N! Just walk to the end and walk back out again.

After reassuring yourself, you stepped into the darkness. You walked for about three minutes until you came to an opening.

It was an abandoned train station. An abandoned. Train. Station. This is what you were so afraid of?

You decided to investigate further, continuing to walk directly straight, you came to an amazing field with swaying lush florals and glistening blades of grass. Spotting some steps further up the path, you decided what harm could it do to go further. You walk up the path and cross over to the stairs. You climb them and look around. "This place must be deserted..." you say as you look around the abandoned Theme Park. Just as you speak, this fresh smell of food hits your senses. It's scent wafting though the air and beckoning you to come sit and stuff yourself silly. Calling. Singing for you to enjoy its spices and textures.

Perhaps not...

As you walk to a full buffet. You grin and begin to drool, but quickly shake your head.

No, this isn't my food.

You turn away from the stands to come face to face with a black haired, blue eyed man. He looked to be about twenty four. Only a year older than you. You were startled by his sudden appearance but regained your composure. "Um, hi my name is Y/N, yours?" You say holding out your hand for a handshake. You never saw that the sun was setting and the lights were starting to flick on. The guy looked at you and grabbed your hand. You squealed as you were pulled along after the stranger. Shadows... seemed to be coming to life around you. "What is this place!?" You ask him panicked. "Shush, they might hear you!" he says quickly and pulls you around a corner. He pins you to the wall and stands over you. Hiding you from sight with his mass. This- total stranger. He sighed and looked at you.

Whatever way the moon was striking his eyes, it made them glisten. Your heart skipped a beat but quickly came back to reality when he spoke.
"Y/N, you will have to go to Kamaji. Get a job from him and work until morning. Once it comes. Run. And don't look back." He pressed two fingers to your forehead and a mental map showed you how to get to Kamaji, whoever that was. He nodded grimly and turned to walk away. "What's your name!?" You blurted out.

"Haku..." He hesitated before continuing to walk.

"My name is Haku" he repeated quietly before jumping back out onto the streets. Creatures crowded around him. Animals and beasts and concoctions of beings that weren't meant to be mashed together in such inhuman ways. "Master Haku! Yubaba wants you immediately!" They chorused. You caught a glimpse of Haku pinching the bridge of his nose. He says something to them and they back off. He starts walking over a bridge to a bath house... how- odd. You started to follow the map Haku had given you.

And that's how your adventure began.

Welcome to Spirited Away by the Shadows! Or more commonly known as SABTS. This book became more of a hit then I ever thought it would ever become. But now, my apologies for such a short first chapter. I swear they grow twice in length the further you read on.

I hope you stay and join us on this tale!
