-"I'm almost certain you guys will love it here, Mayor Montgomery." A man in a tan sheriff's uniform told us as we were in the entrance of our new house. "Everyone loves Riverdale."
I looked around at the art hanging on the walls and then turned. "Sir, I have a question." I spoke up.
My parents heads shot up and stared me in the eyes, giving me a look telling me to not say anything that they wouldn't approve of. "Yes, miss, anything that's on your mind."
"Great, thanks." I grinned as my heels clicked on the shiny tile floor as I continued to look at the paintings that were lined up along the hall. "What happened to the last mayor of this town?" I asked, not being able to remember the town name.
The sheriff cleared his throat. "Oh, you are referring to Mayor McCoy." He stared as if I was supposed to know who that was. "The work became just too much for her to handle, especially with all the serpents trouble that was going on, and some problems with another family."
"Servants?" I asked.
"No dear, serpents, a gang that has been popular around here, but don't worry, we have them under control right now and you and your sisters will be our top priorities to keep safe."
I nodded, liking his response. "Thank you."
"How about you guys go get your rooms situated, or start to before dinner." My dad said, nodding for us to head upstairs.
We nodded and started to walk up the large staircase.
"I bet we stay for two months." My ten year old sister Brielle blurted while we were still in earshot of my parents and the sheriff.
My older sister Jenna and I quickly shushed her. "Lower your voice around the adults, Elle, remember?" I whisper yelled to her.
She shook her head, saying she understood.
"I say we only stay for two weeks." Jenna shrugged.
"No way, we have to stay longer than two weeks, i'm with Brielle, two months." I chimed in.
"Well Sheriff Keller," I heard my dads voice echo from downstairs.
I quickly shushed everyone and we froze, trying to hear what he was saying next, but we couldn't pick up on it.
Shortly after we heard my dads voice again. "Girls, have your rooms been picked yet?"
"Yes!" We all yelled down.
"Come down and eat then, please."
"Race?" Elle asked as she looked up at me.
"I'm sure Jenna will race you." I smiled.
Jenna turned and gave me a dirty look. "Fine."
"I'll be down in a minute." I told them as I continued to walk down the hallway to the room I had chosen.
I stood by the window that went out onto a balcony, looking at the garden in the back yard, a man was down in the garden, watering the plants.
"Hello, Miss!" He waved up to me, a wide smile on his face.
I waved back and said hello before turning back to my light blue room and examining it. One wall had blue flower wallpaper on it, it looked outdated but still pretty.
"Cate?" My mom asked as she poked her head in the room. "What's wrong, honey?" She asked as she walked in.
"Nothing, I just wanted a better look before I came down for dinner."
She nodded like she wasn't sure if that was the truth, but didn't want to push it. "So this is the room you chose?" She asked.
"Yeah, I liked it the most." I shrugged.
"Brielle is already complaining about the color of hers." My mom rolled her eyes. "She wants her room to be purple."
"What color is it now?" I asked, not sure which one she picked.
"I guess it's orange." She shrugged.
"And Jenna's?"
"Mint green, she said she likes it."
"Nice." I smiled.
"Anyways, come down, dinner is ready." She said walking towards the door. "Cook doesn't come until tomorrow, so your dad grilled burgers."
