It was a very late night at work and everyone was taking overtime due to the recent spike in crime, thankfully your partners were the only thing keeping you sane. You read over the paper work and curse under your breath "If I read one more typo, I'm gonna burn this pile" Hank let out a chuckle "Just so they can give you the same paperwork with the same typo" You let out a laugh and lean back in you chair. Everyone is on edge including yourself, just wanting to go home and sleep in their own bed rather than four minute naps in a shitty office chair.
Even Connor seemed to be fed up because he was leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed, probably trying his best to simulate sleep "You okay Connor?" You ask and he opened his soft brown eyes "Yes, I just needed a small break to clear my head" he smiled and you returned it "Sometimes that's what you need to do, take a break" you encouraged him and looked at your work.
Its 2 AM when one of the officers finally lost it "Fuck this! I have a wife and daughter who are waiting for me" He yelled and stormed out, the chief shook his head and rubbed his tired eyes, he couldn't blame him they were all about to boil over the edge. You rub your eyes and begin to get up to get a coffee, praying that there's any left to keep you awake, you walk into the kitchen and immediately spot Gavin sitting at one of the tables.
"Couldn't you send your little android buddy to get you some coffee" Gavin grumble and you immediately turned your nose up at his horrid attitude "Why send a injured dog to get the news paper when you can save it the effort" I mumble as I pour the coffee grinds into the filter. "They're all good for nothing but serving humans" He begun and you turned to look at him "You're wrong, androids are thinking and breathing people, it's nobodies place to say that they're not" You argue back and something seemed to have fired up in Gavin.
"They don't have emotion until they're over the body of a human, with a knife in hand" He took a step closer and you stood your ground. "Haven't you noticed a common theme in this all? Just like humans, when they see someone being threatened or attacks they take action because they know it's not fair" Your face became hot from the rage building up inside you.
"You know what else isn't fair, androids taking the jobs of hard working citizens" Gavin poked the space in between your collar bones "Don't place your finger on me again" you felt your breathing start to lose control and your vision blurred.
"Or what, you're going to get your little android friend" he placed his palms on your shoulders and gave a shove, pushing you into the counter. You started to take deep breaths through your mouth as it felt like your lungs were being squeezed by some outside force "That's enough!" You turned to see Hank and Connor in a the door way "You have four seconds to get away from her before I beat your shit in" Hank warned and Gavin took time to think about his move before stepping back. "Let's have a little chat in private" Hank walked out with Gavin and Connor quickly ran upto you.
You fell to the floor hyperventilating and your fingers became numb "(Y-n) take deep breaths" Connor advised and you did your best to do that "I-I-I Can't" You cried and Connor leaned your head on his shoulder "You doing great, now tell me five things you can see right now" Connor encouraged, trying to get you to focus you in the moment. You begin to take deeper breaths and look around the kitchen area frantically before spotting the clock on the wall "T-The clock" you sputter out and he smiled at you "That's good, what else" He asked and you continued to look around "There's the chair and the coffee pot, the fridge and- and the sugar packets" You finally name off, your breathing still frantic.
"That's it, now what are four things you can feel right now?" He asked and you placed your fingers onto the cold tile under you "The tile and the bottom of my shoes, the fabric of my pants and your shoulder" You breath out and the anxiety and panic lessened as you took note of the things around you. Connor felt his worry wash away as he watched you comeback down to earth and use your senses to calm yourself down. "Very good, can you tell me three things you can hear?" Connor continued and you took a second to listen to the previously quiet office "There's people typing on their keyboards, somebody just flipped a paper and the coffee machine just finished" You slide your hand through your hair as calm started to settle back in.
Connor rubbed his hand against your arm and started again "How about two things you can smell" he tilted his head and you focused a couple seconds before you're able to answer "Cleaner and air freshener" You answer with a steady voice now and look up at Connor who has been watching you the entire time "What's one thing good about you" He smiled and you let out a small laugh "I stand for what I believe in" you manage and Connor chuckled.
"That was very brave of you to do, but you don't have to stand up for me (Y-n)" Connor furrowed his eyebrows abut and you looked down at the floor "I had to, you're not some item to be thrown around, you're a person" You wipe your watery eyes and sniffle and Connor seemed to panic "Hey hey, I'm not mad. Thank you for doing that" Connor thanked and you looked up at him before leaning on his shoulder. "Sometimes it best to take a break" Connor mumbled as he ran his fingers through the back of your hair.
Connor knew what that meant now, its not to take a break physically but emotionally.
Holy moly, I really had to dig into panic attacks that I previously had to try to write it out. I'm not too sure how accurate I was but it was a attempt.
