it was a miracle you and our children survived.

"brian," you said as you held our son.

"kiko," i said as i held our daughter.

you were wearing a white laced dress i bought for you, smiling so radiantly at our children.

your hazel eyes and brown hair reflected the bright sun light shining towards us.

as we walked to my car and placed our children on the carseats, you whispered,

"we made it joji."

we smiled and realized how much our lips longed for each other.

when we were stuck in traffic, i decided to surprise you with your favourite candy - Cadbury milk chocolate with caramel filling.

your reaction was like a little kid's, haru - eyes dazzling and smile widening.

i handed the bar to you, but instead of grabbing the chocolate, you hugged me and whispered,

" i love you. let me go."

_________

"mr.miller?"

a voice called as i regained my consciousness.

i looked around and saw the doctors performing cpr on haru.

she was pale and almost paper thin, not once reacting to the help they were giving her.

as if my bones were non-existent, i fell on my knees.

i wanted to scream but all that could come out was a helpless whimp.

paralyzed by the situation, i watched as the doctors attempted to save her.

hey haru,

i'm so sorry i couldn't pretend to be fine any longer.

i love you.

i'll let you go.

eventually.
