Never loved you more . . .

I shouldn't have come, Marissa thought as she took another sip of her drink, but when Renee insisted it would help her "fit in" as the new girl she felt like she really didn't have a choice. It wasn't just the loud noise—that people with poor taste would call music, sure the upbeat songs annoyed her, but what really made her feel out of place was the crowds of people.

It was kind of ironic, growing up the shy kid while being a, well, bigger girl. All she wanted was to be invisible to blend in and that seemed impossible. When she entered a room people would usually stare, Nicole and Brie would say it was because she was stunning and she would give a weak nod with a gracious smile but deep down she knew the truth.

Her dark eyes focus on the dance floor watching her co-workers have fun. They stopped trying to get her to join them a half-hour ago. And even though Marissa really, really didn't want to dance, she couldn't help but feel left out. Like no one would even notice if she just up and left.

Watching the laughing and smiling faces she stopped on one, in particular, a smile tugging at the side of her mouth. He wasn't the best dancer and she found it endearing watching him stomp around awkwardly with the biggest grin on his face not caring what anyone else thought.

Marissa jumps just slightly as his mocha eyes scanned the room, quickly landing on her. His tattooed arm lifting to beckon her to join him. Her smile grew even as she shook her head in protest. Of course, she wanted to be with him but she knew he was only being nice. He'd never be interested in someone like her.

He frowns in response and she couldn't help but chuckle to herself as she took another sip of her drink. "Baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle, I'm losing my mind just a little. So why don't you just meet me in the middle." He mouthed the words to the song that played theatrically those intense eyes never leaving hers.

His large hands opening and closing as he repeatedly beckons her, she laughs and shakes her head just slightly before extending her own arm and with one finger mimics his motion. A smirk slowly snakes its way onto his lips and next thing she knows he's actually walking toward her.

Oh shit, she thinks, praying the panic that rattled around inside of her wasn't showing on the outside.

"Still over here pouting?" He teases leaning against the bar.

Marissa's eyes roll, fighting a playful smile. "Protesting." she corrects.

He grins, "Ah, yes, the protester of fun. Much better." She laughs lightly. "C'mon let loose, live a little, you might just like it."

They talked for fifteen minutes and to her surprise, she was able to answer. Marissa wasn't sure if it was the alcohol, the darkness or the loud noise making it hard to hear each other, maybe it was all the above but for the first time in her life, she stared into her crush's eyes and didn't feel like an idiot—or at least not completely.
